Anthony Famiglietti Has Told Me He Is Not In the Trials, He Says Alan Webb Was Told He Was in Last Week

Total respect to Fam for how he's handled this.

This is about process and not the relative value of Fam's or Webb's careers.

One good thing, so far, is that they're accepting enough B's to have full heats. Last time they cut things off at the minute and the only reason they gave was "Because shut up!"

As Fam says, the simplest way is to straight off the numbers with no appeals.

What I'd prefer...

- Continue with A and B standards

- Publish the number of accepted competitors in advance and stick to it.

- Qualifiers from previous event (Olympics or World Champs) will be accepted if they meet the B standard and would bump others with superior B mark but no A's. If A's take up the entire field, the previous qualifiers are not accepted if they lack an A mark.

- Conclude the qualifying/declaration process a bit earlier so athletes can make plans.

That's it. No appeals.

Fam = Saucony and no agent.

Fam = Reckless Running

Track sports agents are glorified travel agents.

Let's try and not act surprised here. It's clearly just the annual process of Nike athletes taking advantage of the exclusive backdoor entry into USATF meets without ever needing the standards.

Goucher = Nike, 2008 10k Trials

Abdi = Nike, 2011 10k Outdoors

Webb = Nike, 2012 5k Trials

Fam = who? - no chance

My opinion, so long as Nike and USATF are in bed together, they won't risk upsetting each other and continue the under-the-table dealing.

These guys run the world. They do what they want. The Goucher move was a disaster. Clearly it's Nike asking these guys to get it. Come on.

I would rather see Fam in the 3k than Webb in any race. Let Webb stick to what he does best, time trialing fast times, then choking anytime actual racing is involved.

Since there will be people on the track other than a pacer, we can rest assured that Alan will be going nowhere in the trials.

Fam, what are contradicting yourself. You didn't "hit the mark" but yet you want to get in the field. That makes no sense. Let the runners who qualified run and be happy about it.

God, I love truthful posts. SPOT ON Mr. Choke. Truth that few have the balls to talk about. At his talent level, Webb is probably THE WORST RACER of all time, anywhere.

And god, how I despise Nike and the USATF.

Webb at least has an Olympic Trials "A" Qualifier.

Fam has never put himself in the position to need to come "back" (at least not by the Alan Webb standard). The only reason he might under-perform now is because he is getting old.

He also ran a 14:31 5K, recently.

A fairly obvious fact: USATF should be fired. There are a few good men in the org., but there are a lot more corrupt, incompetent ones.

So are they going to let Adam Goucher in the ladies race next?

I definitely hold nothing against Fam. He should go for it and want it.

But Webb has already hit the standard in 1 event, was about to go for it in the 5K, when he was allowed in. He's in shape. He's in true trials shape.

Fam's recently raced 14:31 and 8:52. He hasn't demonstrated trials shape. You can't just be allowed in if you haven't hit the standard and aren't in shape. That's like allowing present day Maurice Greene into the trials.
