Reporting to the Director of Varsity Athletics, the Head Coach, Cross Country and Track and Field Team, will be responsible for all areas of leadership related to the Varsity Team. The Head Coach will represent Dalhousie University to the highest standards of personal and professional conduct, and will be accountable for complying with all AUS, CIS, and Dalhousie regulations and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Effectively lead the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological preparation of the team and student athletes. The goal is to ensure that the team is competitive at the highest levels of AUS and CIS competition.
• Develop an appropriate program for the recruitment and retention of top level student athletes for the varsity team.
• Develop an advisory and academic monitoring program designed to facilitate academic success for the members of the varsity cross country/track and field team.
• Manage the budget for the cross country/track and field team.
• Develop and implement fund raising initiatives designed to assist the team in advancing to position amongst the top teams in AUS and CIS. This includes developing and managing camp programs.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate a communications plan to promote the varsity cross country/track and field program.
• Promotion of positive alumni and community relations.
This is a part-time (70%) position; evening and weekend hours are required, and activities will occur throughout the calendar year. Travel to other locations (primarily in Atlantic Canada) is required.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will likely have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field (or equivalent combination of training and experience). Candidates are expected to have head coaching experience at an elite level; experience coaching in a university environment would be an asset. Coaching Association of Canada Level II certification is required (Level III is preferred).
This competition closes on June 15, 2012. This is a part-time position (70% FTE), and is a three-year term contract position.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
