I've always seen myself as a strength (10k) runner based on my ability to cruise long runs at sub 6 minute pace and hit 4-6 mile tempo runs at ~5:20 pace fairly easily when I'm in shape. However, I have a large build (thicker/heavier legs than most 10k'ers) and fairly inefficient stride (a lot of vertical oscillation and low stride rate) both of which I think are more of a detriment over longer distances. After years of tempo training, do you think it would be effective for me to refocus my efforts on shorter distances. For reference, my PRs are 32:20, 15:13, 8:47, and 4:28 (mile), though I ran the 3k and the mile over 2 years ago and have really only done strength work since then.
