I am a collegiate D2 cross country runner, putting this out there to see if anyone has similar problems during races / hard workout efforts:
First, early on in the race (about 1 mile in), my arms start to feel numb and I get a tingling sensation in my fingers. It is a similar feeling to having just done push-ups to fail, so they feel super fatigued. As a result my arms and shoulders lock-up and get really tense to the point that I cannot shake them out.
Later in the race (usually about the 2-3 mile mark), this feeling spreads to the rest of my body and it gets tough to continue a race effort at all. If I continue pushing through, my body ends up giving out and I collapse on the side of the course/track. I have tunnel vision and am unable to hold myself up for 1-3 minutes.
After being on the ground fro 1-3 minutes, I can regain control and continue running, but am unable to resume a very competitive pace.
It's a long shot, but does anyone know what's up?? I am sick of not being able to compete at the level my workouts indicate I should be running.
Grazie.
