To ensure your future possibilities you must first ask yourself some questions who, what, where, when and how.
I don’t need to know the answers, but you do and be prepared because your future coach may want to know.
Who are you now, who were you and who will you become
as a student-athlete? The student part comes first and if you have had trouble in the past you must change your habits
and patterns to effect a change in the future.
Who were you? Were you a natural talent that cruised?
Or were you a dedicated hard worker?
What happened between you and your former team?
What made you drop out or off the team?
Was it school work, a part-time job, boy trouble?
Are you where you want to be to effect change?
Do you have a safe, nurturing environment?
Were you at sub 20:00 at one point? (6:26 per mile pace)
Or are you a minute or two from your goal?
When will you find the time to prepare?
Will you be working between now and the Fall Semester?
Most collegiate programs at the minimum have their
women running 50 miles per week (that’s roughly 7 miles
a day), you’re not even doing half that 2 or 3 days a week.
Slowly move up to 4 to 5 days, eventually you will be
running 7 days a week May 45 mins. a day June 60 mins. a day
Test 5km’s on the road or get into a summer track or Jr. Olympic program over the summer. July and August a minimum of 7 to 8 hours a week of base miles. It doesn’t have to be fast or long, just put in the time, time you are investing in you. When will you contact your future coach and future teammates? How will they know to trust you? They will ask what made you drop out in the first place? They will question your focus, dedication and loyalty to the sport and their XC program. If you are not prepared to invest in your future, don’t expect others. Give them something to believe in. Show them that you are planning and preparing for success.
This summer if you have access to a weight room try some light weights maybe a couple times a week and don't forget your sit-ups and push-ups this summer.
Final piece of advice, if some troll on here (LRC message board) asks for Pics. ignore them!
