I've never worn headphones to run. Running gets me out the door and into the outside world, and I'm not keen to water down that experience. Plus, you know, I'd like to remain alert.

Otherwise, running is just too boring!
I sure your significant other wears headphones when they're with you for the same reason.
If you need to run with headphones, you're missing the point.
Yeah! Why would you want to combine two things that you enjoy? You wouldn't drink beer at a baseball game![/quote]
You wouldn't wear headphones to a baseball game though

I always run with headphones (rarely any music) to keep the creeps away.
If you're female and alone, headphones will ATTRACT the creeps.
Wow, all of you badass folks that never wear headphones sure are special.
31 miles, 5:03.
Do you wear headphones while having sex? Running is like having sex, only better.
All the female runners and many of the male runners I see wear headphones. What a pity!

I would if I was alone with no one to talk to.
F-ck all of you who care what other people do. You have the same mentality as homophobes. Congratulations.
Never ran with headphones, never will. Don't want to corrupt myself and find out that I can only run with music.
I don't wear headphones. There's so much I need my ears for during a run, the sound of other people and cars the most important.
I also like the sound of the wind whistling through my ears when I kick into the final stretch of my run, the sound of the grass as pad through it, the soft thwap-thwap of my feet on pavement, the slight deadening of sound from the rush of blood to the head after I finish, the wildlife (mostly small birds, but occasionally a deer and turkeys, and a coyote once), the sound of my pulse in my ears, my own breathing.
I listen to music all the time when I'm not running. When I run, I want to focus all of myself on The Run.
Running alone longest run without music is prob 3 miles.
Like one of the above I've made it since 1975 running without headphones. I have relied solely on this method alone to enjoy my music while running. I have learned to alternate shoulders so as not to create an imbalance.

I hate all those sounds. I like music better.
26.2 miles
I normally wear them during training and can wear w/o them as well. Depends on my mood or whether I forget to bring them.
14 er so miles, i usually wear headphones when im doing fastish runs from 4-6 miles when im just "chilling" i dont like to listen to them. I was running with my best friend too so it was better than music anyways.

Not really. I've used them twice on runs, both times on treadmills, neither for longer than about five. My longest run is a little over 15 miles, but I'm a miler so it won't be getting much longer soon.
Never could run with headphones, except on the gerbil trainer. Tried it once and felt like there's to much going on. Run in the woods or on the lakefront anyway....plenty to keep your eyes and ears on.
Longest run without music? A: 34 years.
