So I am a junior in high school. My best (or least awful) event is the 5000 in cross country, which I ran in 18:23 this past fall at the first race of the season. I am not going to even talk about my track times. I flucuated around 18:35 to 19:45 after that first for the rest of cross season. People I beat during that first race would go on to break 18 and some even 17 later in the season. I don't think my failure is due to the coaching because everyone is improving pretty much and he is very knowledgeable, and quite frankly, I was running as as a freshman and dropped a bunch of time thanks to him. I really think it is my genes/heredity/natural talent. I love my parents dearly, and they are wonderful people and support me in everything I do, but neither have ever been athletes by any stretch of the word. Could this be what is limiting me? Can I improve? And if the answers to both of these questions are yes and no respectively, should I just quit the team so I don't waste anymore of the distance coaching staff's time/resources?
