Any high school teams train varsity and JV separately.
Just thinking football and every other sport practices separately, but most xc programs don't. Why not? Varsity has a different mindset and training. So why not?

Trained together in HS 10 years ago, which explains why we sucked. Never did any volume, forced to run, warm-up, and cool down in the same group as people who walked/ran 11-12 min pace. Most we ran distance days was only 30 min.
Varsity football players are much bigger than JV. If they practiced together the JV guys might suffer more injuries.
I have about 35 boys =/- 5 every year. I have groups based on ability and sometimes age. I have boys who can handle 6-8 miles a day and others who can only handle 4-6. You can't train everyone the same everyday anyways.
