I have looked at this video 10-12x, and he put himself down. The windmilling arms, the staggering...that is staged. When you fall, you go down. boom. Think Uceny. She was up, then she is down.
here Webb is bent over at the waist, flailing around, and then falls. A complete act. Go to a track and try it. How would you fall intentionally? Would you throw yourself to the ground? No - that hurts. You would try to roll into it, like Webb did.
He has lost it, mentally. His erratic behavior has gone from comical to sad. He needs to focus on something else, because running is over for him.
I don't know. I think it's hard to tell. Sure, the flailing looks kinda overdramatic and fake. But at the same time, I think it's quite possible that he was simply trying to regain his balance after catching his foot on something so he didn't get hurt when he hit the track. And the dramatic windmills were due to the fast pace they were running.
That said, Alan Webb is toast. Dude should not have been getting owned on the homestretch of a small time college 800 won in 1:53. Fall or no fall, that George Mason guy was probably going to win the race. Find me the results of one elite 1500m guy on this planet who is running 1:53s right now and getting beat.
