speculation is FUN! Let's just admit that and let people speculate. It may be a guilty pleasure but it keeps this website running.
Agreed, I guess, but I which the founders'/editors' attitude to subjects like this was a little more mature and circumspect. The procession of posters mocking Webb will come regardless - do they have to lead the charge?
The whole 'post-race tantrum' writeup from last year was such poor journalism it was embarrassing to read, and I think eventually that was the consensus among LR posters. Wejo's post that I highlighted makes it appear that LR has learned nothing from that fiasco, and is even keen to see it repeated. That's my objection.

So relaxed that he thought it was a good idea to lay down for a bit.
A Suzy Favor moment?
It was a classic rabbit and hare moment. Webb went out in 49.x and was so far ahead that he decided to take a nap. By the time he woke up, he was too far behind to catch up to the leaders.

Thanks for the information. That really cleared some things up for me.
Results?
Webb was running pretty well until the fall. This quote was taken from George Mason runner Chris Carrington's blog on InStride, "Alan Webb ran at Mason about 10 minutes ago in the 800. He was in 1s place battling with a teammate of mine who is naturally a 400m runner but bumping up to the 800. With 150 to go my teammate George Empty passes him and they are neck and neck with 50 to go. Webb then decides to make a move down the last stretch and when he moved to the outside he clipped George\'s shoe and goes down. George continues running and finished with 1:52.9 unofficially. Webb gets up, jogs across the line, then releases a scream that silences the field house! "
I should have worded my request differently. I want a video of Webb's race. People will want to watch that regardless of whether he fell or not.
I had heard via Vig that Webb was racing the 800 today. Since he asked it to be confidential we respected that but of course people would want to watch the race. I was going to ask for it whether he ran 1:43 or fell.
So I don't see how asking for a video of who I still belive is the most popular runner on LetsRun.com makes us TMZ.
As for the "tantrum" of Webb last year we stand behind that article 100%. I'm a huge fan of Alan Webb but we at letsrun have to call a spade a spade. I trust Employee #1 100%. We knew what he was reporting wasn't an everyday article but we discussed the wording and whether it should be reported.
I think the reaction to the article shows how minor our sport is. Everyone including most of the journalists are fans and they want everyone to root for the athletes. If Roger Federer had an outburst after a tennis match it would get reported.
Doesn't mean Alan isn't a good person or that I not personally am a huge fan of his.

Publishing embarrassing, inappropriate, or irrelevant things does make you TMZ. Not saying that you have been or not. Just don't publish everything under some sensationalized, dramatic cry to be a journalist that publishes everything because that's what a journalist is supposed to do.

Is this anything like a classic tortoise and turtle moment?

weldonjohnson@letsrun.comAsk yourself: is this something the visitors of LetsRun need to see? What will be gained by posting it? As if there aren't enough legitimate athletic accomplishments to cover right now, from NCAA indoors to the marathon.
If a famous athlete in any other sport did something like this, you bet it would be reported. Do you expect ESPN not to talk about when someone drops what could have been a game winning touchdown? Failure/mistakes are part of sport.

Great, so our American Record Holder is running college races, Tripping with PLENTY of room when "Making a move" on a no name 400m runner. This is just great.
Seriously, Webb wouldn't even make NCAA's this year.
