I feel like a genius. I modified my contest predictions last night to eliminate him. Thought he would show up on the starting line, then not run, though.
The thing is he NEVER was going to run. This was all a ploy set up by Rupp and Salazar to generate attention for Rupp. This was a complete classless move on their parts and it further shows that Rupp is nothing more than a pr*ck. I never wish ill will people but I really hope that Rupp gets tripped up in the 10000m and 5000m run at the trials and doesn't make the Olympics after this egotistical crap.
I met Galen Rupp once. I accidentally dropped a pen on his foot. I was going to ask for his autograph, but the pen fell out of my hand. Well, by the look on his face you would've thought I dropped a brick on his damn foot. Excuuuuuuse me.
...I have nothing else to add to this...

9.9% he would have made the team, 50-50 he would have DNF. He is one of the best american distance runner.
Fixed
So many Rupp and Bekele haters on letsrun and yet they're both best in their class. It's as though most of you didn't see the 10,000m in Brussels back in September. Here's the link to remind you.
The reason that africans can close in 53 in a 10K and Rupp can\'t is aerobic fitness. Rupp needs to incorporate marathon training if he wants to compete in the 10K. If he is not willing to do that, he will never be competitive in the 10K or the marathon. Time will tell. I an not sure he is tough enough for the marathon. It defines the heart of a man like no other race.
Shorter did pretty well mixing marathons & track races, even down to 2 mile/3 mile/5k races. Not sure why Rupp/Salazar see such a conflict.

You are one sad excuse for a human being. Mr. Rupp earned the right to enter the Trials by running the fastest half-marathon of US qualifiers. He and his coach considered all of their options and made what they believe is the wisest decision for them. We wish him the best in whichever event he decides to run.
Please don't bother to watch the Olympic Games in our lovely London. We don't need people like you associated with our sport.
This kind of thing gets pretty tedious, doesn't it?
Perhaps Salazar pulled him because he was not allowed to enter the prediction contest.
"If he runs a marathon now, he won't be able to run in any indoor meets," Salazar said.
Huh? Indoor meets? He'd be better off running the marathon trials. There is plenty of time to recover, and train for the 10k this summer.
He is more likely to get injured from the indoor races.
Even if he qualified in the trials race next week and decided not to run it this summer, it would have given him a much better base for the 10k. Salazar said it would take him until April to recover, which is total nonsense. If that was the case then their training is sorely lacking.
It was a mistake for Rupp to pull out of the marathon trials.

No actually I am just kidding. Lube me up and stick it in!

Huh? The reason for Rupps not running the trials is that he wasn't going to run the marathon in the Olympics, so there was no reason to run the trials.
As for the "confidence", Rupp has to race against the top runners in the world, he better be confident or he has no chance.

I like Rupp, but after reading that article a little part of me would smile if he ends up not making the 10k team somehow.
The recovery factor is not a new discovery. F'em.
So which is it?
After he ran sub 27 he was as fast as anyone in the world but did not have the strength to be able to use that speed at the end of the race.
Now he is not doing the trials because he need to do speed training implying he need to work on speed.
To me those a direct contradictions or the reality is that he is noe fats enough or strong enough.
