Dude, there is nothing more chill than Dr. Dre and Snoop on "The Chronic." And if you want some really great rap, check out the Jurassic 5. A true music lover can appreciate many different types of music.

There is certainly good rap out there and the genre itself does not suck, but it's definitely inferior to musical acts with singing and instruments.
I think you just made your argument invalid by saying hiphop is pop for black people. the two are different, and its very easy to tell.
I didn't say hip hop was pop. I said pop music made by black people is branded hip hop. There is also hip hop that is not pop.

Are you sure about that?

Stuck I suggest you listen to Kid Cudi. His songs actually have worthwhile meaning behind them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBM59wjkf44This ^ song in particular has relevance to you and I,as it is about knowing that he was "meant to be alone". I listen to this when I am feeling down, and it makes me feel better. I have many more recommendations if you would like.
+1 on the Kudi recommendation; guy can be quite deep when he feels like it.
We need more "House Party" movies. "House Party 2" is my go to first date movie.
Eminem was pretty good but he only gets all this love because he's white. There are hundreds of better rappers out there. Also, everything I've heard from him recently is really bad - quitting drugs seems to have ruined his talent.
9/10 it's pretty obvious you were trolling and you got a bunch of responses. Stuck you just maybe the greatest troll ever
forget about lyrics. rap music embodies a culture that white people do not need to understand.
Styx and Def Leppard are garbage. You are a supreme troll. Rush wouldn't even consider you a fan.

It is pop and no one said it had to be recent.
right

I admit, I agree with this. I only listen for a good beat and if it helps me pick up my pace while running then I guess it did the job. Rap, hip, hop or anything that makes me want to break out in a dance...I mean a tempo.
"Open your ears and let the rhythm carry you from stride to stride"---dang is that too corny or what?
Vulgar nursery rhymes. Most rap sucks. Agreed.
Rap is just a genre of music

Yeah your right considering Styx is the only band EVER SAY IT AGAIN EVER, to have four consecutive triple platinum albums. Not the stones, the beatles or Led. But yes Styx. Also Rush had the best selling summer concert tour in 2010, which beat out every rap artist out there. I went to the one in Atlanta so I most def a fan.
YES, the rap/hip hop of today sucks! However if you look at the rap/hip hop of the 90's, you will observe superb creativity and overall activism on subjects that were important. Example: Black Discrimination, Police Brutality, basically all the problem of their day.
Meaningful:
2Pac
Common
A Tribe Called Quest
Jay-Z
Nas
De La Soul
Black Sheep
I think there are some rap songs that have great artistic value. I would cite "All Falls Down" by Kanye and "Yesterday" by Atmosphere (just the first two that came to mind.
A lot of other rap is just good for when you want to go act ignorant. I would never say that "N*ggas in Paris" is a great artistic feat, but it is a fun song to listen to when you want to be in boss mode.
That said, there is plenty of rap that is total shit.
No, sonny. MOST rap sucks! And most everybody knows it. Why the heck are there so many of the younger generations, my son included, listening to the music of the 60's and 70's. I NEVER liked listening to the music of my parents. There has not been a lot of GREAT music since that era. All genres of music have some crap, but not to the extent of rap.
very difficult to do great pop or rap.
