I think Ritzenhein will be ready to compete at the marathon trials. 13:50 in late november is 23 seconds faster (~ 8%) per mile than what would be necessary to win in mid january- about 7-8 weeks from now. he'll get some alter g treadmill and pool time and be ready to go.
Props to Estrada and Hall for maximizing the time they're in shape and test their 5k skills on the road against some elites.
I thought it encouraging to see Michael Coe run 14:01 even if it was for 10th. He's a middle distance runner- not a 5k guy. Remember Webb was running 13:45 in early spring before he was rolling out the 3:50 miles, although I guess some would argue that Webb would/would have been better at 5k. Hopefully we'll see Coe develop into a world class miler. I'd think Coe, Manzano, Centrowitz, Wheating, Lomong, Torrence, and Brown will be competing to be on the Olympic team.
