WTF does this mean?
WTF does this mean?
What "it" means is that United States state and federal taxes provide scholarship funds for a non-American. "It" also means that among US citizens only, CU finished first. However, Mick Byrne and Wisco deserve great credit, as does Dave Smith. Anyone who is critical of Smith doesn't realize how difficult it is to win two straight, lose his top finisher from last year, not due to graduation but to personal problems, and come in second. Wetmore, of course, deserves credit, for I'm fairly sure that if Bosshard had not been injured most of the summer and fall, they would have come in second. And while Moussa is a top recruit, no one else on the current team is.

It means that in a couple hours Mo can drive from his home in Canada to the States. It means that he grew up a couple hours from the states. It means that he didn't fly across an ocean simply to attend a school and run.
A little better but still minor flaws (not all top ones in). Here are the last ten years for most top programs. The first column is the average over 10 years, with NQ = 32, the latter removes NQs from the listing (too generous) and only averages years qualified.

Worth pointing out that OSU almost certainly wins if Girma was running and healthy. Tough break for them.
Not if Darling runs with/ahead of Collins, like most expected, and Wisconsin might have pushed harder if it was closer (assumes that Girma runs 7th team points).
Smith was probably right in not running him (even if it was an option). He probably would only be good for 30-50th (or lower, this was a deep year). That would have cost him a year and not changed their placing.
I'm wondering if Wisconsin will suddenly be the place to run your 5th year as a graduate student like Ryan Collins did this year. Are there any Ivy leaguers out there with an extra year of eligibility? Apparently Wisconsin will have Harvard Grad Dan Chenoweth in track as well?
Another guy who will be a free agent is Delaware's Andy Weaver who just ran 23:50 to win Club nationals. He will be eligible next year if he chooses to use his 5th year somewhere.

I think that it has something to do with neuronal miswirings but we are still in the preliminary stages of research - pre publication.

Goget, a Canadian is every bit as foreign as a Kenyan, Ethiopian or any other non-American runner. Or did you mean that he is white?

which he's also not.
Great job by Wisconsin. Just realize that without Collins, they are hanging on for 4th. There is a ton of undeveloped talent on that roster...Also, Ok State had an AA transfer who about doubled his points running for the Cowboys, otherwise, they would have been struggling to podium. Almost every team in the top 10 today had either a foreign athlete, a transfer, or both. I believe the only exceptions are Colorado, and maybe BYU? And, of course BYU has their own possible advantage, running with older, potentially more mature, developed, etc. guys. Somebody more in the know can verify this, I'm sure.
OU at 6th, NO foreigners on their roster.
3 teams, bearing the slightly older BYU runners. Wisco with a 1, and he's Canadian. If anyone knows Mo he choose Wisco for a community he can relate too, his religion. The kid is also a stand up guy, blue collar, and hard working.
Unlike OSU, it IS possible to develop American runners. There's nothing wrong with foreigners coming over and getting a free education in the process. I'm just pointing out, that shows a lack coaching on that schools part.
What is this "blue collar" thing to which you refer? Pray tell. Please go through the rest of the top ten and tell me who is blue collar and who is not so I have a better understanding of how this works.
Why, do foreigners come over prepacked with coaching knowledge? What is it that makes you think foreigners coach themselves, but Americans need their hands held?
Wisconsin in college cross country is about as blue collar as The New York Yankees
Yea, wow OK state really stunk it up. They were only the 2nd best team in the NCAA despite all of those scholarships. . . not only that, but they lost by like 40 points! It's really embarassing that they only won two years running, I honestly can't get over all the suckitude.

You don't know who their top runner is, do you?
Sheilds from BYU their # 2 today transferred from SUU which is where Levins is running at. He was good in HS but great at SUU and then post mission transferred to BYU. W/out him BYU is 6th or so...

Stanford is all American and no transfers as well. Not that that really matters.

You can tell by looking at this team that they are blue collar through and through. Most of them look like they came straight from the coal mine.
