His Junior title in triathlon was at a shorter distance and his times weren't remotely close in the cycling and swim segments to the level that the Senior men were going. Triathlon isn't going to be any easier for him - it might be even tougher.

Tony B, are you OK? You know, we understood you the first time.

The kid never really ran on a team in HS right? I imagine the concept of an XC team probably blew his mind. Think about how many runners struggle to make the switch from HS to college and here this kid didn't even come from a XC background.
What are you talking about?? He ran for Sandburg High School, a good team. Lukas was on a whole different level in high school.. He hasn't faded out yet

Could be the right timing, but I'm waiting on actual confirmation. Not just the fact that he went home to Co Springs. Maybe Vin didn't want him to run Regionals and he wanted/needed a few days off?
He should quit Running and move to Canada where he could train with an Olympic champion in the Triathlon (Whitfield). Then he could make it for 2016 in Brazil. Why would he be in a hurry to make the 2012 team anyway?
I never thought that Oregon was the right place for him - too many hippies - he was just seduced by the Pre legend, but soon realized that Centro would kick his butt so really this was a waste of a semester.

ok, dude...
See Twitter for Flotrack's announcement, including updated quote from Vin Lananna, confirming Lukas is leaving UO to concentrate full-time on triathlon. Wow!
Just saw the flotrack update. Unbelievable..
well that's real scummy. Shoulda just gone 2 more weeks....real classless if u ask me
What a retard!
this guy has no class, terrible teammate
I posted last night that he was leaving, but all of the threads kept getting deleted. Apparently I am not a credible source.
This, I think, is the bottom line here. Why could he not finish the season with his team? Even though he was disappointed with his performances, he was still top 5 for them. He just screwed over his teammates? For what? 3 extra weeks of triathlon training? He left at this time because he was too vain and immature to accept the fact that he would not place as well as he would have wanted at regionals or nationals. Avoiding that was more important than helping his team.

Like a poster before said, if he cared about his academic record, maybe he decided to go ahead and leave the school before the November 13 deadline to withdraw from classes. I'm not sure if you even have to worry about your record if you are leaving the school but it might have followed him somehow if he dropped all the classes after nationals but before finals.
Unclear. Otherwise i dont know why he didnt just finish the season either. he was a scholarship athlete and he would have been a needed low point scorer for the team. poor choice. then again, he is very young. i made silly choices about races and involvement in things when i was younger that i later realized were kind of stupid. just growing up
I am going out on a limb here, I respect him. It's just running, plenty of people find far more important things to do in their early 20s then compete on an XC team. However, if he didn't have a good reason to bail on the season (save eligibilty, or needs to get into a tri group now) then I think it was a poor decision. But come on, his handlers would not have let him make a poor decision. LV is looking out for #1, and you only have 1 career, so make the best of it. You dont get to redo your early twenties.
He's the man in my opinion, for stepping up to the plate and taking on all you arm chair coachs, and your two bit advice!

Best of luck with the tri scene in 2016 brah.
