Futsum's running both because he is a major Boss.

If you're on that level as a high schooler and you want to see how you'd match up against the best ever high schoolers, why wouldn't you want to run at Balboa? Think about the history there.
What would make more of a statement-
Winning at Balboa in a new course record time of 14:30...besting the times of all the past US running legends...OR...winning NXN in 15:04 on a flat, muddy course in shitty weather conditions?
Exactly.

This is a non-issue. He probably wanted to experience both- the real black eye for NXN or FL would be where he chooses to compete next year after experiencing both.
The only reason that he was ineligible to compete at the state meet last year was because his school was ineligible. St. Benedicts takes post-grads and therefore cannot compete in the NJSIAA (state) tournaments. That had nothing to do with him individually and all to do with his school
They also recruit runners.
you can't win a figure 8 race jalopy car race at the state fair in the summer. nxn is a shoe show in crappy wet and cold weather with figure 8 joke race at the end. they pile 1,000 kids on a narrow course. it's not a race. it's a ufc / mma fake tv show.
Foot Locker Nationals is a lot more prestigious for individuals. Nike Cross Nationals is a lot more focused on the team title aspect.
if you think that NXN is just another meet than you must think that Elle McPherson is just another model..... and you obviously haven't been to NXN nor Australia!

1988 called.... it wants its model back!
Looks like Johnny gregoreks record is finally going down...course is faster than ever and he is the fastest runner to ever run on it.

GREAT choice! Footlocker is much more unique than just another team event with names you don't recognize from places you have to really research to find out on a terrible course.
Footlocker is intersting in it's regional concept providing the "team" aspect BUT the emphasis being placed upon individual performance..
NXN just another meet.
If you are telling me you never heard of Lukas Verzbicas, Craig Lutz, Ammar Moussa, The Rosas, Elias Gedyon, Tony Smorgiewiecz, Sam Pons, Matt Jablonski, or Jacob Burcham before NXN last year, you clearly have no knowledge of high school running on the national level and should not be providing your opinion.
That said, I agree that the Footlocker course and prestige is much better. I hope that the field gets deeper this year.
Is Cheserek running in the Master's Division? They say he's an 18 yr old junior, but in person, well ... lol.
XC is a TEAM sport! If Ed Chesereks team could qualify, he would run with them in NXN. He ran NXN as an Individual last year, so he is going the FL rout this year. He can not run both because the qualifying meets in his region are on the same day. Ask most people what individual won FL last yr, then ask them what team won. There is a team concept at FL like there is a team concept in the NBA all star game.

That's so true, man. And just wait 'til he is like 36 and still kicking tail - everyone will be complaining that he is lying about his age and that he is really only 29.
Gotta love it.

But maybe he runs just to qualify and just misses it?

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
