What happens after Period 5 ? Start over at 1 again ?
In general, yes. For example, I will race in a regional track meet a week or two after Period 5. Therefore, I will need to devise another one week or two week add on to the plan, but in general, if I have two weeks, I will reduce volume by 80% in week one and 50% in week two, but keep the intensity there. Then, my easy days naturally are at around tempo speed and I feel like I can't help but run them fast.
I have another goal race (5K) for which to peak in about 20-21 weeks after the track meet so I will do periods 1-3 in preparation for that with only two weeks of period 4 with the same reduction in volume of 80% and then 50%.
What happens when you start over again, after a week or two of full rest, is that you will run the 60 minute run faster in week 1 than you did the last time you were in Period 1. That is because you are now faster overall. You will have recruited the neuromuscular changes necessary to feel like you can only run fast and now it is time to build up that base seeing how much of this new speed can be utilized on the 60 minute run.
