What did Reid run???
Reid Coolsaet, Eric Gillis, and Dylan Wykes Canadian Olympic team?
Wykes missed the standard, but he's so close that he will hopefully take another stab at it.

Amazing result from the Speed River boys, particularly Reid since he got clipped 2-3 times and had an emergency pit-stop (that was never noticed by the commentators). He fought back each time with patience.
Watched it in HD on CBC Bold and it was amazing to see Reid's reaction as he cheered Gillis in to the finish.
Agreed not the best visuals of T-O.
Is that a 30k record for Reid at least?:

I see that Mungara and Dawit had the same gun time, with Mungara getting the win. His chip time indicates that he was 2 sec back at the start. Wondering who crossed the finish line first, and if not Mungara, would Dawit have won if he had known they had a chip differential and had to win by 2+ sec?
Mungara got the win in a sprint. It was an exciting finish.
The course was tough in the last 7km today. The wind was pretty nasty. The commentators said he'd cut 1-2 minutes off the finishing times. I'm not sure about that, but everyone slowed significantly from 35km on.

The 2007 USATF Rule 245.1 states "The order in which the athletes cross the finish line will be the official finish position." Further, Rule 245.3 - regarding transponder timing - "the actual time elapsed between an athlete reaching the starting line and finish line can be made known to the athlete, but will not be considered as official time." In short, official time per USATF rule is gun time.
Don't forget, Bairu will take his shot in Japan this December.
JLR,
Keep in mind that USATF is NOT the governing body at this race.

Good point.
This is from the Scotiabank Toronto Marathon website:
Chip ("Real") time versus Gun ("Official") time
IAAF Timing and awards policy: how are the winners determined?
Gun Time is the official time.
All awards are based on GUN TIME – the time from the start of the race (gun) to when you cross the finish line as per IAAF, Athletics Canada, USATF, AIMS and International Awards standards.
Excerpt from the IAAF Road Race Handbook - Pg 196 RULE 240
Note: For road races and road walking events, the official time will be the time elapsed between the start gun and the athlete reaching the finish line. However, if an athlete crosses the start line after the start gun, his time elapsed between the start and finish line can be made known to the athlete but will not be considered as official time. The order in which athletes reach the finish line will be considered as the official finish position. 196 RULE 240
The Chip timing is provided for personal interest.
I have the feeling Makke will be arguing with Alan on chip vs. gun time since Yal missed the women's record bonus (ahem, course record) by 1 sec on gun time but broke it by 1 sec on chip time.
