It seems like Hall's God-based training has freshened him up, based on his very good (but not great) last two races (this coming after his Chicago pull-out due to burnout last year). But with his Boston performance being more impressive than this one (he was closer to a full-strength Mosop there than he was to an 85% Mosop here), it seems like (even though it's hazardous to draw a trend line from two points) with his six days per week, slightly lower volume training, his long-term aerobic base may be eroding.
If this is true, it seems to me Hall needs to get back to training seven days a week with some blocks of 120-130 miles in the buildup to the Trials, knowing that even on tired legs he should be able to make the US team. After that, he can spend another couple months doing high volume without the marathon specificity before he lightens the total volume to around 100 miles per week and increasing the marathon-specific training during the June and July 2012 in the buildup to London. Hopefully this way he maintains/improves his massive long-term aerobic base while still racing the Olympic Marathon on fresh legs.
