Here it is. I'll try to keep it short to avoid the tl;dr posts
Last fall I was like a 16:50 guy with a Pr of 16:34 as a soph. Right before postseason I got a stress fracture in my tibia and was out for five weeks (came back right around the time of Nike Regionals.) Put in a great winter, came out and ran 4:37/10:05 in indoor and ended up going 9:51 in May, nearly making it to my State meet (had a weak region in 3200). So, I was in very good shape by my standards, and went into the summer phase of training pretty much right after track. I wanted to be great in cross because IMO just a tiny bit more fitness and I would've gotten to state in track. So, I trained hard. Got up to 76mpw max in summer. Ran a roadrace in 16:36 in 97 degree heat like the day or so after my long day. Also ran 3x1 mile in 5:08, 5:02, 5:01. Wheeled course, on trail. ~5 minute rest on those (off no speedwork). Essentially, I was pretty confident that by now in the season I could break 16. My fitness was at an extremely high level, I was running unbelievable including multiple 8 milers in about 44min. So I started off the season running awful (couldn't break 18) and we had blood tests run. I had high monocytes (indicating perhaps mono or a recent virus), and low ferritin. As for the ferritin I'm taking iron, but essentially the monocytes said I was just sick. So we got that out of the way. Got back into the swing of things and ended up running 16:50 last weekend. Still, that was a fast course where the winner was 15:16 (granted he's a sub-9 2 miler). This weekend, 17:11. I went balls to the wall, and I couldn't even break 17. My times this year have been 16:50, 17:11, 17:26, 18:00 in invites. Absolutely horrible - lots of them approaching the pace of 6-10 mile runs I do. Any advice? I can add any info here if you want. PS I take supplements and get good nutrition and rest. Any suggestions?? I have all my logs of running if you want to ask anything about that (I use Flotrackr).
Thanks for any replies, I appreciate it.
