There are plenty of Americans well over 14:00 that have broken 65. It certainly does not require sub-14 speed. All of the Hansons athletes for instance.

1 - Hall
2 - Mo Trafeh
3 - Up for grabs (Meb (old and may not recover from NYC), Ritz (Perhaps the 10K is looking good if he hasn't recovered), Nick (He'd have to run near PR in a tactical race), Jason (Same as Nick), Adam (Not outside the realm of possibilities))
I'd argue Mo Trafeh for sure. Guy needs to actually finish a marathon. I'd put Cabada as having a better shot than him.
Agreed. I'd say Trafeh definitely has potential to do well, but to say it's beyond argument is pushing it a bit.

Not sure how Adam can even train for a half with that smokin' piece of a** he's got! I'd be bending Kara over 24X7 versus running!
So what would you do while Kara is running?
Don't answer that
Sorry, Kara is NOT that hot. Cute, sure, but I have seen her ass in person with shorts on, tight shorts mind you, and she ain't that hot. Although I am sure she reads this crap and believes she is a godess from another planet. One writer in New York called her Cindy Crawford with Nikes, give me break! Kara read it and loved it!!! Boom, big ego got even bigger.
Adam won't break 1:05, bookmark it!
About Kara not making the team, I'd say it's something serious to consider. On that day, with so many others who can pop one, I'd say it's not a for sure thing as well.
Adam, so long dude! This is it and it ain't looking good.
Cheers
Kara G is one of the most gorgeous women I have ever laid eyes upon. Probably the second hottest female distance runner after Angela Bizzarri.
More from my Dad:
My concern is that Adam hasn't run any warm-up races (eg. a sub 30 minute 10K).
RNR Philly is the biggest race of the rest of his life - he should have a tune-up race against quality competition.
His record on the roads hasn't been too stellar.
I thought his 2008 Oly trials 10,000 was his best race ever....all things considered.
I say he kills himself to run 1:04 and then calls it a "workout" or a "controlled effort". That's what I would do (in his shoes). Why do people hate on Goucher? He seems like a nice person, but could be a Lance Armstrong type. Anyone actually know the guy? ...Thanks for posting the interview.
A lot of people here have a sense they know Adam Goucher because of Running With the Buffaloes, I think.

Wow! Shooting for 63, not wearing a watch, but he believes he's in PR shape!]

If there are 14:15 - 14:30 japanese runners going under 65 for the half, then my argument is further supported that goucher has the current physical ability to crush 65 minutes.
Out of the five guys on their WC marathon team, one had PBs of 14:15.99 and 1:02:17, another 14:04.31 and 1:02:29, and even Kawauchi had 13:59.72 and 1:02:40.
DNF.
Waste of talent.
Gut-wrentching disappointment.

The disappointment side I agree with if he DNFs. However the dude made an Olympic team and two world championship teams on the track. That is not really wasting your talent.
I enjoyed that interview. Sure, Adam has fallen short of everyone's expectations the past few years including (not least) his own. There were reasons for that, though.
It sounds to me like he has finally relaxed his famous intensity enough to let his body heal up, get in some foundation miles, and rediscover his enjoyment for just running. I went through a similar progression of burnout, almost giving up, and then coming back (not in running but in another activity important to me) and I can see how sometimes just relaxing your intensity is the key to being able to practice what you love without problems. Hope this is the case for Adam Goucher too.
you haven't laid eyes on many women have you?

Good luck, Goucher!
Probably 1:05:24...He hasn't raced in two years. I wish him the best. Philly is a fast half. He has that going for him.
