The NXN meet always falls on the same day as the fl West Regional. Is there a way that California runners can still do both? I find it hard to believe that Footlocker would exclude California runners like that..

No.

No NXN excludes it lol.
Actually the fact that CA has their state race liek 2 weeks after all the other states causes it.
wow that's retarded!
Actually not just California. None of the states falling into Foot Locker West region can do NXN nationals. I believe it is the same for those in Foot Locker Northeast states. The only ones who can do both are FL South and FL Midwest runners.
Many of the western runners, however, can run in the NXN regional meet as well Foot Locker. Last year, for example, both the boys and girls winners at NXN Southwest declined their berths at NXN nationals, and opted to go on and try to qualify for FL nationals at FL West. Both made it and ran at FL nationals.
Footlocker South and NXN Regional fall on the same day too
The reason the California state meet is late is because there are a ton of qualifier meets that have to be run before the state meet (because the state is so competitive).

I wasn't aware of that. I know Lutz as well as several others were able to do both in past years, and Lutz was in the FL South region. Midwest of course has been able to do both (Verzbicas et al). For the others, if they are part of a qualifying team, I think most would opt for NXN, but for those qualifying as individuals, it's a bit of a harder choice. But I don't really want to open the debate of which meet is 'better'. They are both good, just different.

If Cali is so competitive why are they always pwned by the Midwest states with smaller populations? Maybe because your XC is the most watered down in the nation, with what 5 or 6 divisions?

He was only referring to NXN-Southeast, not NXN-South (which is the week before).
Runners from states within the FLW, FLNE, and NXN-Southeast regions cannot compete in both national events. All other states can do both.

Meh, thats not it. California's real problem is the size. They have too damn many schools, if they had fewer classifications it would be WORSE. With so many schools they can't just do a (District/Region/State) advancement. The meets would be massive, so they add in more rounds. The solution is either to cut restrictively and great teams not going to state because they are in a great district, or by expanding the sizes of the meets, which would be dangerous. Or they could start their state qualifying earlier. They are still doing invitationals in California (Mt. Sac anyone?) while many states are already into their state qualifying rounds.
Footlocker sucks. NXN is the ONLY cross country high school national championships in the USA.

Sounds like someone doesn't understand the concept of depth of talent.
The CA state meet is by far the hardest to qualify for in the country.

1st week of november: league finals
2nd week of november: section prelims
3rd week of november: section finals
4th week of november: State
1st week of december: NXN or FL Regionals
2nd week of december: FL Nationals
If you consider the fact that many CA schools also run Mt. SAC at the end of October, you are looking at 7 hard races in 8 weeks leading up to FLN.
Plus, I don't know if you could call the divisions watered down. Here are last year's divisional race results for Boys
D1 Winner 14:43, 8 runners under 15:05
D2 Winner 14:52
D3 Winner 15:00
D4 Winner 15:11
D5 Winner 15:39 (these schools have less than 500 kids)
Total Number of boys at 16:00.0 or better, 158
Total girls at 18:00 or better, 30
