Shalane Flanagan is by far the best distance runner we've got. She seems to race much more than anyone with maybe the exception of Lagat and I can't remember the last time she had a bad race. Very consistent and always competitive. She's not afraid to race unlike most Americans. Races marathons, XC, 10k's, 5k's,miles, 1500's and even 800's. She is the type of runner all of the American runners aspire to be like. Tough as nails and not afraid to mix it up.
Couldn't have stated it any better. What a contrast to Solinsky, who seems to race about once every six weeks and then drops out or trips and falls into a bush. He's our great hope? Or Rupp? High pollen counts keep him out. But he did a nice tempo run at nationals and 1 good 5k. The state of U.S. distance running is actually terrible. On the men's side, our only hope is a 36 year old Lagat.
Look at Flanagan's range. She has run a quality marathon all the way down to a very respectable 1500. I think she has a big decision to make as to what distance she will run at the olympics. SHE CAN'T WIN THE 10K, BUT SHE MIGHT WIN THE MARATHON.

I don't believe she'll win the marathon

She cant go faster . Her talent is tapped out.
Bullshit. AT SOME POINT, FLANAGAN WILL RUN UNDER 30 FOR 10K. YOU CAN BE ASSURED OF THAT.
-----------------------------------------------------------------If Shalane breaks 30 in the 10,000 everyone will accuse her of being on drugs.
I hope that never happens.
