I think Alan needs to toughen up and get it together. He CAN run fast, he just doesn't have the confidence and motivation anymore. He has the physical capacity to run fast in the 1500 and mile, not a decent 3:55-7 mile time or a 3:41-3 1500, but a sub 3:50 mile and a sub 3:35 1500. He has the physical capacity but not the will. If he got strong will then he could have practically a second chance. It really doesn't matter how old he is, all he has to do is train a bit harder but more carefully to maintain his shape, even when he's thirty five, I'll bet he could still be great, not decent but great. It doesn't matter what the peak age is. If Alan got enough will together, he could run great times, and more records. Its all in his head. He's not willing to go through the pain and effort. I wish he would.
Evidence, I thought I was a slow runner but I willed myself faster and it works. Come on Alan, its not nearly too late. Don't give up. If he has the energy to throw a tantrum after running a 4:00 mile, then he definatley has more in him. After truely blasting your effort you don't have any energy left. You're too tired to think, that's how runners should run. That's how Alan should run. He needs to avoid injuries, train a lot but smartly and get it together. Come on Alan!
