Hello Letsrun, I am in definite need of some professional advice from a physical therapist or someone of good knowledge on the subject of tendinitis and tendinosis.
I have had achilles/peroneal tendinitis for what seems like over a year and a half now. and it has kept me from being able to do any serious mileage, and sidelined me my first season of college XC. I can see how I came across the injury, as I am a class-a example of an overtrainer (or used to be), but I can't seem to wrap my head around why the injury wont seem to go away.
About 4 months ago I got my ankle scanned, the podiatrist couldnt find any stress fractures, or anything out of the ordinary. He told me to just take 600mg of ibuprophen a day, to ice, and stretch/rehab my foot. I also purchased inserts to counter my high arches. I did all this, but the pain is still present during my runs.
the pain is mostly located in the peroneal tendon, but if I try to increase my mileage it branches off into my achilles as well. I am becoming increasingly frustrated as nothing seems to be working as far as permenantly healing the injury. I have never suffered a stress fracture, I iced and stimmed dailly for over 4 months. and I even took a 5 month hiatus from all running, and even after that the pain is still present. I am growing increasingly concerned as I am afraid I might have tendinosis instead of ordinary tendinitis.
I am about 19 years of age, I have high arches, I used to run at least 60 miles per week, for the past year and a half its been less than 15 a week.
I am at a total loss, I want this injury to go away once and for all. I am about 90% certain I have tendinosis of the achilles and peroneal tendon. So please, if anyone else here has had to deal with this type of injury, please let me know what I should be doing to properly rehab myself back into racing shape. I dont care how long it will take, I just want to be rid of this insufferable crutch and feel like a runner once again.
TL;DR = I have had tendinosis in my achilles and peroneal tendon on my right foot for over a year and half, I am 19 and have high arches. used to run at least 60mpw. What should I be doing as far as rehab?
any and all advice is GREATLY appreciated, I am desperate.
