Didn't we discuss this at length last year? Everyone then said it was Pascal Dobert, and it was never clear that he was actually directing Rupp to turn back to Solinsky at all.

That video of Jerry bringing Galen over to congratulate Chris makes Jerry look like a punk. Galen is a professional athlete, not a kindergartener. If he wants to give Chris a handshake, it's his choice, not Jerry's.
What the F? Seriously. How do you people interpret that video as Jerry "manhandling" Rupp or somehow physically "forcing" Rupp to to to Solinsky? There is a touch, at best ARGUABLY a very small push- but which only appears to be anything resembling a slight "push" due to the fact that Jerry's momentum is going towards Solinsky. Based purely on the footage, it appears that Jerry is walking by Rupp, towards Solinsky, and pats Rupp. His forward momentum is the only reason at all it looks like a half-push. Jerry immediately stops the contact and walks forward to hug Solinsky. There is no chasing. No manhandling, no "bringing". This myth needs to die.
I just don't understand the level of incompetence (and subjective, uninformed opinion-stated-as-fact) on this board (and especially on this topic). It's mindboggling.
this one?

i almost forgot about this classic. what a celebration of winning a 5k qualifying round. kid has one hand up crossing the line, waving to the crowd...superstar!
wow....first, I have no life.
now, scroll to 6:50 in the clip above of the 5k. as Solinksy walks up to Rupp we get a big close up on Rupp's face, jolly as can be mouthing, "I had to do it."
ok, back to spying on the neighbors

That does not help. There are many videos on Youtube. Are you referring to this video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc74QRStavwIn that video Jerry is not sending Galan to congratulate Chris. Galan is already walking over to congratulate Chris when Jerry pats Galan on the back as he walks by. There is another video out there that shows Galan initially walk off the track only to be instructed to go back and congratulate Chris. I'm pretty sure this person is Alberto. So, it was his coach Alberto who told him to congratulate Chris...not Chris' coach Jerry. I will try to find the other video but in this video you can see Galan initially turns away before the camera goes over to Chris.
Dude - Thursday = rain = no pollemn; Friday dry and windy = pollen blowing in to Eugene.
Did you see him Friday afternoon?
Rupp ran in Oregon. Grew up in Oregon. Competed in Oregon. Never seemed to be an issue before...I mean hell, he could have had 12-stitches in his foot...oh wait that was Mr. Balls, Pre.

Pollen from the grass seed farms in the Willamette Valley is a much worse problem in Eugene than in Portland. Rupp grew up in Portland and returned to Portland after he graduated from UO, so you can't really say he's dealt with Eugene-area pollen his whole life with no problems. Also the allergy issue is worse in the summer than in spring, and by summer the college track season is mostly over.
People keep saying this has never been a problem before Rupp and this year's Pre, and that's not true. Lots of other athletes have had issues with hay fever in Eugene, especially in summer. Joaquim Cruz nearly left UO because of the problem.

I can't see how people can stand up for rupp. Most posters don't but those who do I just can't understand. Dudes a face for nike, since forever. Solinsky is a real man, doin it right, the best face for american distance running. If there was a real rivalry, rupp wouldnt be able to handle it. I watched that youtube video, Its a shame he had to be physically led to solinsky for that weak ass hand shake and quick turn face. real men are judged by how they act in adversity (not when the coins are stacked in their favor at some big time meet in europe). A lot can be said about a person for how they act when you lose. Solinsky's interview was really telling, he was earnestly disappointed and I can tell he'll go train even harder and run faster after this.
Solinsky is a big pussy, he has said so himself, so who are you to debate it? Therefore, rather, here is the list I've compiled to help Solinsky convince his delusional supporters that he is indeed a big pussy.
1. He was a pussy dropping out of NCAAs finals in college.
2. He was a pussy getting 70th something in XC while Rupp got 6th.
3. He was a pussy getting beaten by Rupp in 5k race where Rupp PRed and outkicked him making him look slow.
4. He was a pussy getting beaten in a Olympic 5k prelim which Rupp did as a warmup and being jealous and complaining of the home crowd roaring for Rupp and Rupp's simple acknowleging the crowd.
5. He was a pussy getting beaten by Teg at USA and complaining about Teg.
6. He was a pussy getting beaten off the World Indoor team by Rupp.
7. His pippy longstocking compression socks which he wore during the race and the man sandwhich with his two male teamates (Jager and Bairu?) after the 26:59.
8. He was a pussy who couldn't even do a decent pacing 10k job for Teg's debut.
9. He was a pussy dropping out of this latest 10k because Rupp pulled because of his athsma and allergies, as it was announced he might, and thing say the whole thing might have been a ploy against him.
I have to say I have huge respect for both. Pussies? C'mon, both have run well in major and tough races and have some amazing PRs to their credit! We who have never run well but write comments on LetsRun well or badly are closer to being in the pussy league, myself included.
Great runners as pros in a sport that does not have the financial support levels of other sports. I would imagine, for instance, that the lowest paid player on a 25 player baseball team, maybe in all of MLB, makes more than either of them unless they run very very well. What is running well? Times and honors won in major competitions. Pre is not quite there, though more than a small time meet clearly. So, to stay alive in a sport where 17 year old Kenyans run 8:14 for a two mile and 12:53 for 5K, they must run well. A 10K, if you have never raced the distance seriously, is not like a 1500 where one might toss in an extra effort on an off day and recover quickly. There are fewer to pull out of one's racing bank account and cash in on the track. So one or one's coach has to pick and choose. We shall see, but my bets are on AlSal coming out looking good for the choices he makes. Farah gave some hints at that on June 3rd.
As for Solinsky, sometimes it takes a braver runner to drop out. To be a great runner, you have to have the guts to run through pain. But, alas, to become an injured runner is facilitated by having the guts to run through pain. I ended my marathon days by running through pain when in my best shape. Injury, no race I trained 5 months for, and ran through pain too early on several comebacks afterwards. When I then coached a bit, I had to keep runners from making the gutsy and brave wrong choices. Had Solinsky damaged his hamstring, he might not be a pussy to some of you who lack the, er, fullest of insight, but he might have ended his season in a sport where his livelihood depends on being uninjured. I myself will accept his judgment on that, and never chided a runner I coached who had a good track record when they enacted such wisdom. S and R are major leaguers in this sport enough to not allow themselves to be coached by the opinions of the masses on the World Famous LetsRun Message Boards, mine included.
Translation? Neither Solinsky nor Rupp is a pussy, and all's well that ends well. We shall see.
10. He was a big pussy for destroying Rupp over the final 900 meters in a 10k.
11. He was a big pussy for breaking 27 min in the 10kand currently holding the AR.
This whole tread is funny. A sad bunch of never-were never-will-be losers who will never accomplish anything in life doing their best to denegrate the achievements of others. Typical LR commentary, so sad, so pathetic.
