True, followed closely by DII schools. These places are really just 4 year community colleges.

Geneseo had a serious 5th man problem today. Should have easily been third, maybe even second
If ifs and buts were candy and nuts...
Nobody had a perfect race (NCC had a guy over 26, other teams had guys not run on their PRs), but the point is to go out and see who is best on a given day. The only place they should have been was the one they got.

Geneseo actually ran really well today, and they deserve props as I don't think many people were expecting them to get a podium spot, and it seems they got over the pattern they had developed over the last few years of underperforming at nationals.
Great race by North Central of course. They did what was expected of them, but its deceptively hard to perform as such a high level year after year when you've a target on your back (even last year when they got second they still ran really well Haverford just ran even better). They have finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st in the last four years, and given that they only lose one of their top seven, they will probably be the favorites next year.
Also Sathre is an absolute beast and ran a gutsy race going out in 4:34. Berube is damn good as well, and Sathre beat him the hard way.
Does anyone have team standings for the mile splits?
Oh, you wanted team scores at the mile splits. I don't think they'll publish that sort of information. But since the results have places at each mile, you can certainly go through and score the race yourself.

NAIA would have ripped DIII apart. Haven't looked at DII yet but probably the same story
The funny thing is, this isn't even true. The first 18 NAIA runners ran faster than the first 18 DIII runners and then DIII beats NAIA for all the rest. Luckily the results are completely and totally comparable since they were run on the same course on the same day in the same conditions

Jesus, guy, get a life. Go post on the NAIA thread if you love NAIA so damn much.
Was the course short or something? Those times look way too fast. Noticed a few people with 30+ second PR's.

North Central had two fall at the start, which helps explain their first mile positioning. Interesting to see so many top teams that built through the race, though.

Not smart? Oh really? Its fcukin cross country. The goal is to win, not run perfect splits, or look good. Probably a lot of guys out there who would take the win even if they went out in 4:34. Any true competitor would take the "W" and not give a crap about style points. He was ahead by 5 seconds at the mile and won by 5 seconds. Except for Berube no one else could handle the pace and those that didn't commit like Berube did had no chance because they were too far back at the start. I'd say it was pretty smart because he had a strategy that worked. All strategies are risky, this one included, but he did what he needed to do and that is smart no matter how you look at it. If your concerned about the first mile being too fast then you don't have what it takes to win a high level XC race.
