Thanks for the link and info. During marathon training, I'd only be considering ibuprofen after introducing weekly long runs a couple months before race day. So, maybe a day or two each week for six weeks. At present, I don't use it.
Sorry to see you've had to cut back to two days a week. The spinning routine sounds good, though. I'm really hoping to get back to riding next year, after not getting out at all in 2020 (well, one or two 18-mile jaunts, only). BTW, full disclosure: the "low-mileage marathon schedule" I listed earlier also included a couple one-hour rides most weeks.
Regarding arthritis, a few weeks ago my wife was diagnosed with arthritic knees. Earlier this year she resumed running, and was having some knee discomfort, but not too bad. It would subside as each run progressed.
Then while bicycling, she suffered sudden knee pain. After that, it was too painful to run even a few steps. She went to a sports MD, and based on the knee x-ray, "arthritis, NO MORE RUNNING, EVER!"
She's 65, started running in her early 30s. Competitive locally, never high mileage. She questions arthritis as the cause of the sudden and debilitating pain. Normal day-to-day movement is now extremely painful, too ( she doesn't take any painkillers or anti-inflammatories). I guess time for a second opinion?
