On Wednesday, I was running on this "new" treadmill that my gym installed. (It is not actually anything new, but the gym got rid of the old model I was using.) There are many things I don't like about this machine, but the worst part is that it automatically shuts down after 98 minutes. (It is followed by a 2 min "cool down" and then comes to a complete stop.) I didn't realize that until I tried a 12 miles run. It is a very frustrating feature. Then I didn't have any time to run 6-7 miles on Thursday, so I decided to run a triple. It was not the most pleasant experience, but I managed to get it done.
On Sunday, I started my long run thinking it was "nice" weather with overcast and little wind. (The temperature was in low to mid 40s.) Then about 90 min into my run, it started snowing. (Well, talk about crazy seesaw weather...) What's even worse was that the wind started picking up. So snow was blowing directly into my face for about 1/4 of the course. I tried to pick up the pace for the last 5 miles. But then the 16 mile went only 8:09. I had to push the last 4 miles hard just to stay under 8min/mile pace. I don't know much of a factor the snow was, but this is not what my fitness should be three weeks before a marathon.
