Where the f*** is Solinsky..... chicken shit... he looked awful pacing the 10km gasping out of his ass.... not a chance of a medal at world champs!!

US mid-d women are going after it vs. the best!
Tadese will do it, perhaps by a margin in front of Sihine - but without WR; I don´t credit him result under 26:30...
I was disappointed as anyone not to see Rupp and Solinsky in the lineup. But it really does make more sense for them to run a shorter race. Rupp, Sol & Teg gunning for the 2 mile AR could be a thrilling race, perhaps more so than one of them possibly squeaking under 26:59 in 4th-10th place.
There should be a couple opportunities in the weeks following World Championships to shoot for records & PRs, no? Like the Weltklasse meet in Zurich on Sep 8, 11 days after the 10K final on Aug 28, where Ritz broke the 5000 record, and the Brussels Golden League meet on Sep 16 where Teg broke 13?
There are already 3 guys under 27:30 this year, plus maybe Ritz or Solinsky in the mix for the U.S. team. It is conceivable if Rupp has an off day he might not finish top 3. I can see why they would not want to take any risks.
But here's an idea: In future years why not use the Pre 10K as the U.S. qualifier? Athletes could just build this into their schedules and there would be some real benefits:
It would generate even more interest in the Pre meet, and the 10K at U.S. qualifying is not usually a highly anticipated event anyway.
Since there are usually fast times at Pre, U.S. runners that make the team would have a good chance of also making the A Standard in the same race.
It would allow guys like Teg or Solinsky to run the 5K at the U.S. meet a few weeks later without having to double.
That's a hella good idea.
If there was a race in my own backyard in my best event with a world class field and I was only 25 (Galen on all accounts) then heck yeah I'd be there to mix it up. How often do opportunities like this come along when you're young and healthy? I think Galen and Solinsky could learn a lot in this race. Yeah, they may be a little tired for world championships but racing the 10 at Pre would seem to get them experience at racing in a stacked field. Having home court advantage would have to give them a boost, too.

It's not as if Rupp has no international experience. He has already run in an Olympic and WC final. Whatever experience he may gain from running at Pre is all for naught if he fails to make the US World Team. In fact, all of the planning and training he has done for this entire season is for naught.
Suppose he is sick on the day of the U.S. qualifying race? Maybe he can still make the team if not at his best, but add tired legs from a hard 10K a few weeks prior and it might be the difference between 3rd and 4th place. A hard effort at Pre increases the chance of him coming down with a virus, it risks aggravating any minor injury, or incurring another injury.
When it comes down to it, there has been a great deal of investment and planning that hinges on Rupp running in Korea this summer. As much as I want to see him run in Pre as a fan of the sport, it certainly seems like a reasonable decision to hold him out.
Fast Kenyans don't want to be lapping our "slower" US Champs eligible runners all night long. So while it would be kind of cool to do so, it might not work logistically.
I was also going to mention that USATF could use a meet like this as their qualifier. Ethiopia does a similar thing.
But USATF has a standard for Americans to qualify for a trials.
You couldn't put all trials qualifiers in the same race with a loaded elite field.
The system is fair and it encurages sub-elites to shoot for a USA qualifying time.
Mosop just ran a 2:03 marathon and is now going for a WR at 30km. I think he's racing a road 10k too (or just did). Rupp and Solinsky should get in there and race. Looks like one of those races that even 5th place could be an AR.
That is a huge stretch to say its conceivable Rupp could not be in the top 3. Even if he ran the PRE 10K. In the 10K Rupp is on a whole other level than Teg right now based on the Payton Jordan. Its inconceivable Ritz could come off all his injury problems and outperform Rupp. Let's just say if he does, buy stock in Alter-G treadmills now. I would even give Rupp a decent shot to beat Solinsky in a 10K.
give chelanga his us papers he got the balls to run
So, I really don't see what the big deal is over doing 2 10ks in 3 weeks. I mean, I'm not the fastest recoverer, and I've Pr'd 3 weekends in a row at 8k, 10k and 13.1.
Generally, I'd say less than 10 days between 10ks is cutting is close as far as top top top performance. Any more than that is bonus, really. I just don't see what the big deal is....3 weeks is a long long time.
Lukas V. Just tweeted he is confirmed for Pre 2 mile.

Too bad the Americans don't want to compete with the best. If not here, where are Solinsky & Rupp going to get their A standards?
Both Solinsky and Rupp (especially Rupp with time off after his winter efforts) are shooting for an August/Sept peak. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the Brussels 10,000 after Worlds.
just got my ticket! eugene-bound.
Special Friday "Distance Night in Eugene" events are tentatively set (7:00p.m. for 25k/30k, 8:45 p.m. for w5k, and 9:15 p.m. for m10k).

Guys, its a 10k... not a 100 mile race through the Sahara where you're not allowed any water! Rupp can easily handle 2 10ks 3 weeks apart. I don't see what the issue is here? This is a kid who races a lot... who was used to running 10k at Regionals and then 7-10 days later, a 10k at Nationals in cross. People do the marathon 10k double at the Olympics... and that is over 10 days. 2 10ks 3 weeks apart is really not bad. Rupp will be 100% recovered from Pre within 3 days at most. Not sure how this is an issue.
i think dix could stand to lose a few pounds
