What shoes do the elite distance runners (Rupp, Solinsky,Teg, Webb, Chelanga and so on) train in?
Solinsky trains in the Skylon as far as I know. I think Rupp runs in the Pegasus. But what you've gotta understand is that these aren't the same shoes you buy off the rack. These Nike guys have lasts made just for them, plus they can probably get little things changed if they want it.
The Skylon was the holy grail of trainers...so Nike discontinued it. Meanwhile the Lunar Fly is the edsel of trainers and still around.
Fly 2 good shoe; Skylon/Hayward good 2004-2008, that last model in 2009 not so much.
Rupp does most of his daily miles in Structure. Teg, Solinsky, Simon, Evan and many of Nike's Portland based Elite runners mix it up depending on workout; Peg, Structure, Skylon, Zoom Elite.
Some guys have their shoes tuned based on specific anatomical needs but most are 'off the rack' that you see in your local running shop.
Most of the custom shoe jobs are done on flats and spikes. There are some cool hybrid creations out there that you don't find in shops.
Did you mean LunarElite? Wonder if any of these guys train in the Lunar range...
Most are in Zoom Elite. A few in Lunar Elite.
You'll a good amount of Nike's Pro Runners in Lunaracer for tempos and marathons.
Salazar's runners use the Katana flats for workouts, or at least they did. I've seen a few pictures of them running in them, it's my favorite flat so I recognized it pretty fast haha.
Ok, what I posted were just educated guesses based on what I've seen from flotrack videos but from the wide variety of conflicted answers I think we can come to a consensus that none of us know what we're talking about.
Rupp and chris both run in vibrams according Alberto and jerry
Isn't the Zoom Elite a discontinued shoe? Why would Nike let them run in a product that they can't sell to the public? Kids wants what the pros are wearing, don't they?
You might think that but the people who actually see what these guys where is an EXTREMELY small part of the running shoe market so they really don't matter.
If you see them in a magazine, they're wearing a perfectly clean model from this year. If you see them elsewhere, they're usually using a model from a year or two ago that has been working well for them.
This is what I've heard as well. For example there was a discontinued model that Bob Kennedy liked/ didn't get injured in so he got a bunch of them. Most of the guys run in off the rack and will show up for promos in the gimiicky shoes like shocks, free but never run in them.
