I've been a college runner for 3 years now. I only have 1 year left, so how do I initiate a conversation with a female runner at meets xc/track without being an extreme creep.
Maybe it's just me, but I find it difficult to do it naturally.
(1) Pick a girl who is either on your school's team or on a team who you will see again in future meets.
(2) You want to approach her AFTER her race, not before.
(3) Use my "hit and run" approach for the initial encounter.
When she is passing by you, SMILE, and say "Hey you ran great! Was that a new PR for you?" Let her reply. Do NOT say "My name is Joe" or some such thing. Only state your name if she asks. End the conversation (SMILE and say "Hey I gotta go!") as soon as possible and walk off.
Do not follow her around or some stupid thing like that. Be cool, like you have a so many other worthwhile things to do besides talk to her. Do not let her catch you looking at her after that initial conversation on that first day.
It's like training....there is a process involved.
