After her run at Stanford in the 5k, Pixler has a shot depending on what events some of the stud pros choose.
Jeff Demps if he tries, he may not b/c of football. Jeshua Anderson and Ti'erra Brown in the 400H. Jessica Beard. Dorian obviously already made a world team, but it will be tougher this year.
Ummmm... ever heard of Jordan Hasay?

Charles Jock
Miles Batty
We have yet to see her race in her best event this season and she will probably chase a world spot in the 1500.
How many of these runners mentioned, actually have the IAAF B standard, let alone the A standard needed to make the team?
Christian Taylor and Will Claye
German Fernandez, if he can get in a month of solid training first.

I guess those guys are technically field guys and neither of them has the, although Taylor is a heck of a runner.
Maurice Mitchell just had a heck of a double at ACC's.
Scott Roth is the only guy in the field who has an A standard during the outdoor season. I am sure a few field guys have the A from indoor. A good amount of folks have the A on the track in the 1,2,4, 110, 400IH. Jock has the A.

Who is Demps going to beat to make the team? The 100m will have Tyson Gay, Walter Dix, Ryan Bailey, Trell Kimmons, and Mike Rodgers all trying for three spots, and the 200m will have Gay, Dix, Bailey, and Spearmon to name a few.
I agree on Ti'erra Brown and Beard isn't out of the question for a spot in the 200m, where Allyson Felix has a bye.
I said several months ago that NO college athlete will make the WC team. This is not because it is a down year in the NCAAs, there is just so much depth among the pros.
There is a chance Lauren, Sanya and Carmeleta may run the 200 and this in not counting LaShante, Consuella, Muna?, Marshevete, Knight, Soloman and Porsche. The U.S has almost a dozen women capable of running in the low 22s; the top NCAA athletes are barely under 23.
As far as Demps is concerned, he is basically a 10 flat sprinter, making it through the USATF rounds would be an achievement for him. He would have to go something like 10.2/10.1/10.0 just to make finals and then PR at 9.9 to have a shot at making the team. It is not just a matter of talent, but having strenght and durability as well. Our top 100m sprinters run 10.1 with a poor start or easing up, you can't run all out in the rounds and have anything left for the finals.
Someone mentioned Jessica Pixler, the odds are staked against her. She just ran a big PR of 15:25, the U.S. has at least a half dozen women who claim the 5k as their event with a faster PR and about half a dozen more who could move up to or down to the 5k and run faster than 15:25 if they don't like their odds in the 1500m or 10k.
There is perhaps one open slot for an NCAA athlete in both the men's and women triple jump, javelin and steeple, but it will depend on if a couple of the pros we have not heard much from decide to step up their game this year. I don't know the status of Fam, Walter Davis, Kenta Bell, Steve Slattery, Erica McClain and on women's side, we don't know who is even going to do the steeple.
Taking a step back, if Demps is 100% healthy and not focusing on football and if Darvis, Rogers or Ivory have slip up; I would say Demps has a decent shot at a relay spot. But, that is a lot of ifs and not including Gay, Dix and Ryan Bailey are 9.8 sprinters. Also, Charles Jock is not someone who I would not completely rule out in the 800m, but the issue is always going to be getting to be the finals with having to kill yourself. The 800m is with out a doubt the hardest event to make it through the rounds...you run the same amount of rounds as the 100m.

Isn't she injured? I'd say the odds are definitely "staked" against her then
There is a huge lock for a collegian to make it to the WCs - in fact I would be shocked if he did not make the final. He runs 400m, can you figure out who it is?
By the way, McClain is definitely out for 2011; she completely trashed her leg (I think her step got her to the edge of the runway/pit).

Enlighten us?
Robby Andrews is slowly building up fitness, if he makes it out of NCAA season decently fresh then hits top form for USA's there's no reason he can't sneak in a la Wheating in 2008, especially if Wheating isn't running.
Elliot Heath probably has the second best kick in the 5k field, if he's in position he could make it.
Both are long shots though.

That would be a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide, who should be a medal contender.
Who from the University of Alabama has a shot at making team USA for Daegu in the 400m? I thought that's what this thread was about anyway.
Karani James; he of the 44.x marks at age 18; who said US team, he is a lock for the Grenadian team and got tripped or would have won the Indoor 400.
I guess the LetsRun crowd do not follow the sprints all that closely.
