What are the effects of running too many races in a season?
(High School 5000 races during cross country) At one point, the team ran 5 races in an 11 day time period. Any thoughts on over racing and over training.

Can't overrace? You obviously don't race very seriously then. If you're running a 5k every other day there's no way you recover, much less run your best (in any one of them) or train to improve.
Of course my statement was ridiculus but the Ted Poulos thing is true. He didn't run very fast (16,34?) but he enjoys lining up. I'd say do 5 races in an 8 week cycle building towards a peek.
I am from the DC area, so I am pretty familiar with Ted, though I do not know him personally. The results for most of his races show pretty convincingly that he doesn't "race" every weekend. It seems much likelier that he uses the weekend 5k's as workouts, because every so often he will bust out a time much quicker than the norm.
That being said, I do not think his situation involves "overracing". The guy sometimes runs two races in a weekend, and he would definately be injured all the time if he went for it every single time.
You can burn yourself out though...been there!
The team went from pr's 0f 16:03 to 16:40 in mid season to 17:20 18:00 and middle of the pack at the state meet. They were discouraged and tired after the mile. I hope that the coach will limit the races next year because they are all back and can be good.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
