Flanagan 15:09.67
Smith 15:09.72
both failed A standard 15:08.70
So Smith set a 5000m Outdoor Collegiate Record to go with her indoor record, as well?

Flanagan is my fav woman athlete, great race for her. This was a big matchup obviously, nice to see Flanagan on top :D Too bad they didn't get the Olympics A Standard but maybe they can get it in Europe later
No, she set NCAA indoor 3000 and 5000.
As for outdoor collegiate, I guess the record
is 15:05 something, an old record.
Well, hope she can break some of my records. :D
Thats not ratified that mark was made after the collegiate season; therefore, its keep just for statisical purposes-not offical collegiate record.
Vipam
I don't think so.
Notice the press said Flanagan set the new meet record at
Mt Sat, not a collegiate record.
Flanagan redshirting so her time wouldn't qualify for the collegiate record; however, Kim Smith 15:09 shattered the old record by almost 14 seconds.
Vipam
So Flanagan not belong to NC team at Mt Sac while
Smith a memeber of Providence team?
Since both are in senior year, interesting to see their
rivalry after college.
BTW, I guess Smith is the only woman qualified for B standard in NZ. So anyway she will go to Athens.
I am sure how many american women will qualify for A standard, though. So I am not sure if Flanagan can make it.
Flanagan's redshirting means she still have a outdoor season left and isn't Kim Smith a junior? I maybe wrong but I think both of these ladies will break the 15 minute barrier in Europe later this summer.
Vipam
Only on Providence site she is listed as JR,
all other places she is listed as SR.
In the interview she said she transfered her transcripts from previous two shcools to Providence. She entered
college in 2000. Maybe Providence just wanted the blonde kiwi to add some trophys for them.
They both ran strong in early season. They now know they can get the standard, it's just a matter of executing now.
Lots of good times throughout, looks like a lot of pr's. Craig looks like a capable 32 flat.
Comments on splits?
2:58, ?, 9:02, 12:07, 15:09.
American record is 15:07 by Mary Runyan.
No American women has cracked 15min? Weired.
And if Kim Smith runs faster than the record during her
college years, will that be a American record? Or you have
to be a American citizen?

What the heck are you talking about?
American record is held by Regina Jacobs in 14:45. Deena Drosin, Amy Rudolph, and Annette Peters have all run under 15min, and Pattisue Plumber ran 15:00.00. Slaney ran 15:06 back in 1985. All this is according to T&FN website.
And yes, you do have to an American to set an American Record.
Maybe you were thinking of the American Collegiate record though? Cathy Easker ran 15:07 in 1985, but outside the Collegiate season, so T&FN doesn't recognize it as a Collegiate record. So...Kim Smith sets the Collegiate Record at Mt. SAC, and the American Collegiate Record is still held by Shalane Flanagan from last year at 15:20.
Regina Jacobs ran 14:45.35 at the 2000 Olympic Trials. I believe that Amy Rudolph, Deena, Annette Peters, and Slaney have run sub-15...
I mean indoor record!
And if an athelete like Regina was proved to drug up,
what's the time span for her record to be still legal?
Oops, you beat me to it. I guess Slaney had the AR but didn't break 15...
I think Craig is capable of the 10,000 A standard. That's 31:45 and would be a collegiate record. She was cruising through that 5k... and if she wouldn't get caught in no man's land like she always does, she could be running some spectacular times. Her training has been ridiculous. She can only get faster from here. I'd like to see her go for it at Stanford next weekend.
