Those are good but not "untouchable" at all. I wouldn't be too surprised if Verzbikas beats German's record.

The 8:34 is weakest of the distance records, and will probably be first to fall.
Here's an idea:
800 1129 points on IAAF table
mile (3:53 by the way) 1157 points
2 mile 1071 (much superior to Rupp's 3k)
5k 1075
for comparison:
100 1186
200 1208
400 1201
and Gallagher's 800: 1152
Just so you know, the mens and womens times from the IAAF don't compare with each other.

I would imagine that the more aerobic-intensive the event is, the less comparable pros and high schoolers would be (pros having been running longer have a far better aerobic base).
I think high schoolers are always going to be better at the 400/800 than the 2 mile/5k (compared to world class) because their relatively low mileage and young age suits them for that better. And since the 2 mile is run much more than the 5k and is shorter, I agree that it'll be the next one to go.
Um, I think you might mean 2:23:47 as a sophomore...bad ass, but a long way from 2:12.

Texas focuses on three sports, and it is evident. Football, Baseball and T/F.
I will grant you it is a great state. Many
Is track actually in the top three?

Yeah, I almost didn't include it, but because it drew so much talk I did.
What amazes me is that the 2-mile (contested all the time) is worth less than the 5k which is rarely contested.
Interesting to see that Cain broke the apparently untouchable women's 800M record, as well as the women's two-mile record (she ran 9:38 for a full two mile indoors, which, in my opinion, is one of the strongest female prep performances ever).
What do you guys today think the best HS records are?

Not the girls 2 mile.
As a poster a couple of years ago already said:
1) Boy's shot
2) Boy's 400m
3) Boy's Mile
Pretty big dropoff after those 3, but Cain's 800m, 1500m, mile, and 2-mile are pretty tough. I would've put them up with the 3 above until Cranny and Efraimson "brought them back to earth" a little bit.

The boys 400 is insane, but we should remember how little sprint times improve from HS superstars vs distance times. Webb's mile time is about as competitive as 44.69 on the pro circuit, but it means a lot more to see a long distance race that fast from a prep runner.

Agree with your top 3. Calling for the 2 mile to be included on the list lacks perspective. Compare Webb and German's runs directly to the collegiate competition while they were still in HS-Webb's run was truly epic, not to play Ventolin here but 8:34 seems like it would have been easily attainable for a handful of HS greats had they pursued the 2 mile.
Webb smoked Bryan Berryhill at Pre when he ran his 3:53, just a couple of weeks removed from Berryhill convincingly winning the NCAA 1500 if I'm recalling it correctly. German's 2 mile equates to a very solid collegiate performance, not earth shattering by any means, probably good enough to make it to Indoor NCAAs.

Of the individual track records?
I'd say, in rough order, these would be my clear-cut top 7:
100mH 12.95 Candy Young PA 1979
200m 22.11 Allyson Felix CA 2003
Mile 4:24.11i Mary Cain NY 2014
1500m 4:04.62 Mary Cain NY 2013
400m 50.69 Sanya Richards FL 2002
100m 11.11 Angela Williams CA 1998
800m 1:59.51 Mary Cain NY 2013
with the top 4 clearly being ahead of the other 3.
Completely agree with your argument. When I said "2-mile", I was referring to Cain, not German/Verzbicas. Just wanted to clarify.
Cain also broke Bjorklunds 3,000 meter record ... indoors.
2016 Rio Olympics, Allyson Felix wins her 6th olympic gold medal.
I'm not an American but that 400m record looks pretty sharp, one thing though you Americans need to use the metric system.
Was Carter on steroids? If yes what does that say for his daughter winning gold in Rio. Because I was going to say that down here Val Adam's high school shot put record looks pretty invincible.
Actually I could see Felix's record being broken, and the relay, and the long jump.
