Yea, good list. I would say Carter's Shot, then the boys 400 with Webb's mile 3rd!
Four out of 10 are from Texans. Another reason to hate us.
What about Ian Edwards' weekly mileage record?
I had no idea that a high school kid had broken 45 in the 400, that is insane. I would put boys 800 on there and take off the girls 3200.
no 8:34 from german or 8:40 from lindgren? really?

Three out of 10 are from Californians. Another reason to hate us.
Why would you openly admit your inferiority?

8:34 is not untouchable. I expect it to fall within the next 10 years. What was amazing about it was German's age and that he lead the whole way. The 8:36 4:00 double was better than the 8:34 two mile, in my opinion.
Lindgren's 8:40 was indoors, I think they're talking about outdoor records.
"If there were a national meet, there might be a chance for some of the truly great relay teams to actually collide more than once or twice a year."
Uh, there's been a national meet for a while. I assume the 4 x 1 is contested there.
"Heck, America's best collegiate runners aren't threatening 2:00."
Just not true.
7. Girls 800 (2:00.07, Kim Gallagher, Fort Wash. Upper Dublin, Pa., 1982)
Ajee Wilson (NJ) split 2:00 flat in a relay and ran 2:02 last year as a sophomore. If she can remain healthy she has a shot at breaking it next year.
Wow, breaking 45 in high school is just eye-popping fast.

She did run 2:00.59 for a relay split, but her best open was 2:04.18. Note that a couple of years earlier, Laura Roesler ran 2:03.08 as a sophomore and didn't get faster in high school. Not saying that Wilson can't break Gallagher's record, but it is an impressive record.
And I'm a big fan of both Roesler and Wilson, so I hope they continue to have an excellent running career.
What's an even better record may be Obea Moore's 45.16 as a sophomore. That's a woulda, coulda, shoulda right there.

What about Jim Ryun's 3:58.3 mile in a pure high school race?

Good point. I don't expect any high school kid to ever go out on their own and do that without a set-up race. The kids these days cruise their state meets and save themselves for the big prep showdown meets to run fast distance times. That will never, ever happen. Carter's shots, Webb's mile are incredible and look untouchable but 20.13 will go down before a high school kid comes around that's good enough to even contemplate trying a 3:58 or 3:57 1600 when he's going to win by over 10 seconds.
I think it would be the mile or 400, carters shot is going down this year. Every year ryan crouser has started the season a little worse than he ended the season before. This year he was unable to do basketball so he has been 100% focused on throwing and has already thrown 77 ft, a massive pr, and it's only indoor.
