Name the best "movies decade"

5/10 for irony.

The best movie decade was the 1970s.

I say 70s probably, maybe 80s. All the movies now are a lot of remakes and I could only take so many alien movies.

(im 19 years old).

The 70's was jammed packed with classics (Godfather, Rocky) I really don't feel lie doing the research, the 80's were a fun time for movies and they were refreshing. The 90's saw the return of some more classics(Shawshank/goodfellas) and a bunch orf good comedies. A strong argument could be made for almost any decade except the one that just closed. Name one movie made in the past 10 years that you seriously would put in your top ten.

Great movies of the 00's:

There Will Be Blood, Into the Wild, Lord of the Rings, The Fountain, Downfall, Zodiac, Kingdom of Heaven Director's cut (not at all like the theatrical), Assassination of Jesse James, Letters from Iwo Jima and City of God.

The top 3 decades for movies: 1970's, 2000's, and 1960's.

In the 1960s Hollywood finally evolved and began delivering artistic features on a regular basic. From hud to bonnie and clyde, easy rider and cool hand Luke and others, we see some groundbreaking achievements that set the stage for some singularly great 70s fliks. The 60s is my pick.

From 1965 to 1975.

It is interesting that only serious adult movies that are rated R can be in consideration for 'great movies" I think it is something that we are socialized into. Admit it, you absolutley loved some child/ teen movies at the time,perhaps enough for it to be a top ten, but you won't include it in your top ten b/c of the way we have been socialized.

I think these were all made in a 10 year period starting around 1973

I must be missing a bunch of great ones. Jaws and Star Wars were the beginning of the end, because they brought the mass market potential of the teenboppers to fruition, and so we have mostly gotten garbage since then.

The 2010s got off to a rotten start with a festering collection of 80s remakes plus Facebook the Film. Let's hope Hollywood can do better in the next nine years. I echo the earlier sentiments for the 1970s.

1921-1931

The Kid, The Thief of Baghdad, The Big Parade, The General, City Lights.

Silent and without special effects so plot and storyline are quite good.

Its the 70s hands down. Not only did it have great, timeless movies but its was a great period of innovation. Yeah, the 90s had Goodfellas. But at that point Scorsese was just coasting on the movie making skills he developed in the 70s. Same with Spielberg's movies.

It was like what the 20s or the 60s were to music.
