What does one have to do in order to qualify? Is it based solely on time (as it was a number of years ago) or the US Championships? Where are the US Championships?
Thanks in advance

Both. It used to be strictly on time (within a "qualifying window") but now the top 3 (I think) finishers at the US Championships are automatically on the team and the other 2 spots are based on times (usually also from the US Championships but not always). If people give up their spots the selection committee keeps working down through best times until the roster is complete. Unless you plan to run the US Championships (used to be Parkersburg, don't know where now)if you run well somewhere else you'd need to contact USATF-LDR and let them know you're interested in being considered for the team. Also - an obvious point but worth mentioning - you must be a member of USATF during your qualifying race in order to be considered for the team.
