ELUID KIPCHOGE cost teenager Isiah Koech the 5000mi WR!
After the first rabbit stepped off the track 2nd rabbit Vincent Rono assumed pacing duties and keep the pace at 30.2-30.6.
Vincent increased the pace from first rabbit 2:37.01 to 2:34.87. With 6:19 on the clock Paul Koech who was running behind Vincent waves for Eliud and Isiah to go around as Paul apparently felt the pace to quick.
Shortly Isiah assumes the lead and runs two laps both under 30.6 and another under 30.9
Eliud goes around him at 3600m to 4600 and slows the pace to 31.69, 32.29, 31.99, 32.20, 32.20 for a kilometer of 2:39.39 the slowest of the race.
At 4600m Isiah retakes the lead runs 30.69 before kicking in with a 28.11.
Isiah was reeling off sub 30.9 before Eliud took the lead and being inexperienced Isiah let his more established countrymen take the lead and then slow the pace thus denying the teenager a chance at the World Record late in the race.
>>Eliud saw that Isiah was running constant under 30.9 per 200m so why take the lead to slow the pace and prevent a chance at a WR?
Isiah admitted in another interview he looks up to Eluid as he is monumental in Kenya. That admiration cost Isiah Koech the world record.
