whaaaaaaa? wrote:I appreciate that you're trying to show how Miles Batty has improved despite taking 2 years with minimal running. But a 6 year span to improve 27 seconds is not that earth shattering given the starting point of 4:22.
You don't know anything about running do you? First off a 3:55 indoors in college, 23 or not, is earth shattering in itself. No collegiate runner has broken 3:55, and Batty looks like he could possibly do that. So strike one for you
2) Who are the guys who have run 3:55? Nate Brannen for one...3:59 guy in HS. Bit faster than a 4:22 no?. German who we all know very well what he did. Tony Waldrop, don't know what he did in HS, but it was 37 years ago and he is considered a great. Not sure if any others have run faster than Batty, but the point is, running 3:55 in college is earth shattering, and most guys you see who run those times were top guys in HS. Batty was not.
3) He went on a mission...if he did in fact train hardly at all, and come back out of shape, that makes it even more crazy.
4) your analogy is incredibly stupid. It's much easier to drop from 4:32 to 4:03 in HS in 4 years than it is to drop to 3:55 after only going 4:22 as a sr in HS in 6 years or even in a lifetime.
