now this does NOT look like a 15yr old:

I find this time AMAZING, and it's even more reassuring that he has a date of birth, but is it truly legit?

13:21 in a 12:53 race certainly is not encouraging for Rupp. Al Sal's guys are not doing too well this year. Let's hope Jerry's group get it going.
He looks like all the other Kenyans..
On the All time Performances site it has his date of birth as:
19.12.92

Yes, he is truly faster than any American ever.
It's disturbing that many folks on this post seem to think they can guess a teenage boy's age within a year or so...what makes you such an expert? How many boys do you look at on a daily basis? I do hope they're clothed when you're peeping...

lolol
Digest that haters. The boy run 12.53 indoors, only Bekele, Geb, Komen and kipchoge have manage to go sub 13 indoors. Analyse that. Give credit to these boy for this wonderful perfomance. WOW.
Trully incredible performance by Koech! What makes it even better is the fact it is his first race indoors. That puts him in the same league with Alamirew Yenew who ran his first indoor 3k in 7:27. Putting his performance to perspective, he is at least in a 12:43 5000m outdoors shape(judging from Bekele's 12:49-12:37,Gebrsillasie 12:50-12:39 and Komen's 12:51-12:39). We should look for a similar or better performance this season, maybe outdoors, from David Kiprotich Bett who seems to always improve on what Koech has to offer. And that implies Eliud Kipchoge's world junior 5000m record is going to fall this year!

- 13:21 in February is not a bad result. Solinsky and Tegenkamp are hoping to just dip under 13:20 a month from now, outdoors, so Rupp is already where they hope to be.
- The winning time of 12:53 doesn't make Rupp's performance worse. If anything, the fact that he ran 13:21 after being under 13:05 pace for the first two miles means that he was probably in shape to run 13:15 or better in an even-paced effort.
Personally, I have a feeling that Solinsky's opener at UW tomorrow will be underwhelming. Not that it's a contest. I wish those two training groups would act more like one training group, anyway.

This is 2011.
2010

18
On December 19th he was 18 years old. Where does everyone get 17?
Everyone's getting 17 from another widely published birthdate for Koech, of 19 December 1993.
That's what the IAAF has, for instance, and they're supposed to be the authority in such matters. One would hope that they vetted this date prior to Koech's appearances at World Youths and World Cross Country.
congrats on being talented kid!

Solinsky and Teg won't be the only ones from Jerry's group going under 13:20 in Australia.
YOUGOTTHATRIGHT
As Charlie Francis would say, some of these kids posting need to "learn the facts of life."
This perp is in his 20s and doped to the gills. Those who argue otherwise are innocent in the extreme or as mentally defective as Ventolin.
David Kiprotich Bett has run 13.06.06 5000m and 7.37.51 3000m and he is only 18 years old. You ain't seen nothing yet from kenyas juniors. David is even stronger than koech.
Ventolin i broken, that is true.
Rupp is obviously pure. His 13:21 proves that.
Do you think he's on the same stuff as Solinsky and Tegenkamp?

If either of those guys are 15 then I'm the Queen of England.
The entire Kenyan youth and junior system is steeped in fraud. Remember a few years ago that some of their runners jumped to Qatar when the Kenyan Federation came out and reported their real ages?
It's far more likely that he is older than 17 than it is that he is doped. In Kenya, when you're born faaar away from the city and no one from your village ever goes to the city, there's basically no way at all of knowing how old you are. They basically just make up a birth date when they get picked up by an agent. I mean that's all they can do, is make a wild guess how old they are. There's nothing else they can do.
