Wills: not from North America
Regardless, I am pumped about this race
Willis is North American based, like rojo said.
He lives and trains in the US.
But how can you call it the North American Dream Mile without Wheating or Lagat?
1. Will Leer, 3:56.79. You heard it here first.
i've got to go with Willis showing all the wannabes why he's the olympic bronze medalist

Without Wheating, Lagat, Lomong, Torrence and Tegankamp it is missing 5 of the top 6 Americans as well as the top Canadian and top Mexican.
I guess Webb and Willis along with Manzano make it a North American (based) dream.
1. ALAN WEBB
2. LEO MANZANO
3. NICK WILLIS

silver medalist
Does anyone know why Webb was out originally? I've seen posts indicating that he recently had the flu and some mentioning hamstring trouble.
I'd say if either of these are the case, then we probably shouldn't expect much from him.

i will pick manzano in 3:53-3:54, i hope webb does well as he is weak mentally and a bad race could have him doubting himself, his new coach, his training etc. webb has enormous talent as has been occasionly seen, he needs to believe in himself, his situation and be consistent.
Only a moron like you would make a statement like that. Webb is one of the strongest minded athletes there is. The fact that you are so ass backwards shows what kind of idiot you are. Many great HS and college athletes have gone through struggles and quit. Webb has kept at it no matter what has happened, and his mental toughness is what has allowed him to do that, and to compete at an extremely high level when he's been fit. None of his poor races or years had anything to do with being weak mentally, which anyone smarter than you would know.
Can we just be rid of Douglas Burke once and for all from these boards, and from Track and Field? Please?

I love Webb. I am attacking your logic here not the runner.
Let me get this straight, you say Webb is tough because he hasn't walked away from millions of dollars and pursued a career in whatever his college degree is in (if he has one) because he is mentally tough? Yea it takes a tough MF'er to collect paychecks when you are injured and running 15 sec off of your pr in the mile.
Oh and his very very few good performances are due to his mental strength, but his general lack of living up to his talent in the last few YEARS has nothing to do with his lack of mental strength?

If we did that, then who would there be to remind us every day that there are a hundred Ethiopians and Kenyans who can beat any American?

You really don't get it. About 75-80% of pro runners would have given up or lost desire after the year Webb had in 2005-2006 yet he regrouped, healed up and came back the next year to set the AR and was the favourite for the WC 1500 that year but that didn't happen. Then he gets reinjured in 2008-2009 and loses at least a year of solid training. From here he switches coaches, moves across the entire country, and is still injured. He focuses on healing and getting back to simply running. Then he pops out a horrible 800m and everone says he's done. Does he quit yet again - NO. He keeps training and ends up having several good races at the end of the year. He gets married, keeps training, and comes out and runs a 13:36 5k on turkey day. Now he's decided to run in Boston, despite of an illness or possible injury. What you don't get is that Webb has been training and racing at the ELITE level for at least a decade. What other American runner can you say that about, besides Lagat? Teg, Solinsky, Ritz, Hall? Not quite. They are the definitions of runners who have a great race or two or one elite level year and then kind of never reach that level again. Webb has been at the elite level since his senior year of high school and had national media attention since his junior year. You don't stay at it like Webb has without mental fortitude, which Webb most certainly has. Have his racing tactics always been understandable, no, but don't question his mental strength and dedication to running at the highest level virtually his entire running career. That's not debatable.
I can't not pick Willis.
Saw him at a restaurant in Eugene last week.
You are a moron.
75-80%, no, make that 100% of American runners don't have the range of 1:43 - 27:34. WHY THE F U C K WOULD SOMEONE LIKE THAT QUIT RUNNING? It has little to do with mental toughness (although i'm sure he's plenty mentally tough) - this guy is the most talented runner the US has ever seen! Lukezic, Rohatinsky, etc. - these are guys who quit. because they are on the cusp of being world class, but have probably worked as hard as they ever possibly could've but couldn't get over the hump. It's no wonder they gave up - they don't have near the talent of Webb.
Your whole argument about him training and racing at the elite level for a decade, while Ritz, etc have not is beyond imbecilic. First of all, if Webb has, the others have - do a little research. Second of all, if that were true, what the hell is your point?
Bottom line, you can most certainly stay at it like Webb has when you're at his talent level. I'm a huge Webb fan, but to say he has great mental toughness and then describe his various pitiful years is silly. sorry...
i think alan will win. well, him or willis, it'll be close. they are the class of the field.
1. verzbicas
2. verzbicas
3. fernandez

Just one question. Which Verzbicas wins and which one finished 2nd?

Why, because he has incredible natural talent and has had every resource imaginable thrown his way?
I see as much strength and dedication in less talented runners staying in the sport (without a show deal and an altitude cryo massage sauna tent) as I do in Webb.
