I saw 2 mock drafts that both had him as the #3 QB in the draft all in the 2nd round. With that said the Cardinals will probably take him #5.

He is mid to late second round to a team that can afford to wait for him to develope. If he can afford the pay cut this would work out great for him.
This is a very weak QB class, so I definitely see him going in the 1st round just b/c there are a lot of teams looking for a QB. I agree with previous poster that he is definitely no Jamarcus Russell...but the kid is definitely a big time project. He's had very limited experience in big time college football (1 year) and even then the offense was very option-read oriented, no audibles and passes were very straight forward (ie, limited reading the defense, usually hitting read 1 or 2). He is obviously a physical freak, but you always worry about kids like that that maybe they are used to letting their talent do the work (not going to spend the time watching film, studying playbook, etc...think early M. Vick). The thing with Cam is he is no where the physical freak Vick was, so he's going to have to refine his passing skills much more to "get by."
I agree with this. I think Cam will be a bust, honestly. But I still think he'll go in the first round. There just aren't many good QB prospects this year.
Doesn't matter. NFL teams are cookie cutter. All same. Salary caps make the the teams vanilla. The NFL likes doping too.

No way does Buffalo draft Newton, he's a great college player, but that's it. He runs too much to stay healthy long enough to ever develop into a franchise quarterback. Besides we got HAAAVVAAADDDDD grad Ryan Fitzpatrick under center!!!!
yeah buddy is stupid (see the spiller pick), but he's not that stupid.
Cam Newton (6'6 249 lbs.) is a Ryan Leaf "bust" waiting to happen.
He is not going to come close to being Ben Roethlisberger (6'5 241 lbs.)
Ryan Leaf was drafted at 6'5 235 lbs with mad character concerns.
Newton has no focus. That is obvious from being at three colleges in three years, and opting out to go pro. It is also obvious from the BCS championship game.
Another big QB, Vince Young, is similar to Newton, except for the fact that Young did work to prepare for the BCS game he played in. Not so with Newton.
I wouldn't touch Newton until mid-late scond round, and then as a conversion to a combination TE/RB/FB. On some plays he could throw, but it would be as an unexpected.
I think Newton's future is a player who could come out of the huddle and line up at any one of three positions, TE/RB/FB. He could also throw on trick plays. That would make him very tough to defend against.
As a straight QB, Newton would be fairly easy to prepare for,
to anyone saying the panthers will pick newton since they need a qb.. not a chance in hell. hurney and richardson will either trade down, since this luck-less class now lacks a true front runner, or draft either fairley or de' whats-his-name from clemson.
cam newton will go somewhere in the second round... and to the guy/gal earlier who referenced tebow's first round draft selection... please. everybody not native to north florida knows that was stupid. the dude has played what, two games so far, against the raiders and the texans? there are many reasons josh mcdaniels is currently unemployed, and tim tebow's selection is one of them. but i digress. teams that need quarterbacks will not take such a risky project, especially with an early pick. rent-a-qb will be the way to go this off-season for a number of teams... hopefully there will be a 2011 season.
As a 49ers fan, I absolutely don't want him to come here.
...straight to jail
Unfocused? Newton led the otherwise relatively mediocre Tigers to an undefeated season and national championship in the middle of an investigation that put him and his family in constant media spotlight and made him the subject of constant negative chatter. The validity of that speculation and chatter aside, I cannot see how you can call him unfocused.
He is unfocoued. That is my personal, and professional, observation.

he needs to go to penitentary! - what a criminal!
His crime was very minor. Seriously, I hate Florida and am not a Newton fan, but you might want to read the details of his crime.
He goes late.
He is not an NFL QB.
He will be told to be a receiver.
Wherever he agrees, will draft him(and his dad) who will have his hand out.
Within 3 years he will be out of the NFL.
I don't know, who needs a Tight End the most?

What pick?
He'll go early first round, but I don't see him being successful. In NCAA, no one could tackle him effectively, that won't be a problem in the NFL. He's already matured ( physically) so what you see is see you get. If he failed out of Florida, he obviously doesn't have the work ethic or brains to make it in the NFL.

You know those are fake right? Thats like saying I dreamed that he went in the 1st round.
Let the racist comments begin.
