If the guy wanted to make money he'd come clean on how he did it and write a book about it.

Ps. Reading the abstract is disappointing, just a recap. I was hoping for an article on why... What is the motive to cheat running 3 hours? I don't get it.

Well, it looks like Dr. Litton will finally get to retire now that he is going to be a multimillionaire. He'll probably continue to practice free of charge due to his infinite generosity though.
I冬天think搜
No article ever? wrote:
The likelihood of Kip running another race or an article coming out- Neither. Will this thread go beyond 5,000 posts? Sure.
The number of times someone says the "article is coming out soon?" daily! hahahahahahahahahaha
The article will be lame.

Wrong. Singer did a nice job. What were you expecting a writer to do?
Mark Singer of the New Yorker was able to meet with Dr kip Litton in person at a local restaurant in Michigan. None of this is discussed in this letsrun thread
cam someone email the article to me?
email in my name

If anyone wants the article, email me. It's a 12 page PDF and is about 6.5mb in size
Dane Rauschenberg should be next.
Well, I guess I'll be the first to admit I was wrong:
I thought the article would never come out, and it has. SOLKR, scotth, et al., I'm sorry for doubting you, and good work sticking with this to the conclusion over the years!

I told you doubters to STFU and wait. Some of you wouldn't listen, constantly denied there would ever be an article, and now you want a free copy? Go buy it at the store losers!
It is an excellent article. Much of the research was done by Let's Run, but the author did some digging, put everything together, and wrote from a unique perspective.
Happy this fascinating story has been put into a readable form-- it's a good read. I was quite convinced it wasn't ever going to appear; I'm thrilled to be wrong. I liked the intro to LetsRun: "its "World Famous Message Boards," where most participants use pseudonyms, and the content quality runs the expected gamut (factual, analytical, sophomoric, inanely combative)."
It is a good and comprehensive article.
I sure look 'foolish' for doubting that it would come out, but I'm OK with that.
What new info does the Singer article provide?
Answer me this, if Kip cheated at Boston, how did he do it? Why didn't Singer try a recreation?
As one of the most vociferous of Kip's accusers from the very beginning, I again reiterate that Singer's article simply doesn't deliver the goods.
It's worse than just a rehash of this thread because of the damning light it casts on his accusers. Worse, runners in general are portrayed as obsessive nut cases. Typical snide New Yorker B.S. A bemused dismissal of the entire sport.
And yeah, a sub-3 hour marathon is certainly nothing to brag about on Letsrun; anything slower than 2:40-2:35 and you are dismissed as a hobby jogger here. Next time do your research and and ask the right questions, Mr. Singer.
I just finished the article - congratulations to all youse guys who did the work here.
The article succeeds by moving past the strictly running aspects of the story and trying to figure out the man Kip.
Nice zinger:
"Moreover, whatever category of abnormal psychology Litton might belong to, it didn't seem to be 'evil genius.'
(regarding whether he could have hacked the chips)
I love the part about his falsely claiming to have been on the Dental Ethics Board - was that on the boards somewhere or did Singer find it?
"Letsrun's forensic beavers" = nice image.
KL only donated $20 to the cystic fibrosis charity. ugh.
I disagree that Singer lets KL off the hook - after reading the article there is no doubt Singer thinks KL is guilty.
It was a disappointing read. Nothing really new in the article. Just a consolidation of the info on this thread really.
Just a heads up to anyone wanting to read -- you can get a free trial of the online New Yorker -- just requires an email address -- just type 'free trial new yorker' into google or something to that effect.
The article didn't provide new 'evidence' but it summarizes the whole saga well and should be an enjoyable read for people outside of the running community as well.
