Running QB's don't last in the NFL. Check Michael Vick's performance in his last game after he was injured and note that he is out for the next. Too many big fast defenders in the NFL.

Jimmy Clausen, Ryan Leaf, JP Losman, Brady Quinn. All white. All had/have big egos. All were/are stupid and really suck. Crazy thing is I'm a Bills fan and a Domer.
Kellen Moore is going to be in for the same kind of shock. He's never seen anything like the NFL out in the WAC.
No racism. Just looking at history and realizing that it tends to repeat itself, especially when you're dealing with 22 year old who liked to have their egos stroked.
Pretty early to say about Clausen. He is playing on a terrible team. Not saying that he is going to be a good or great QB, but pretty early to be tossing him in with JP Losman and Ryan Leaf.

All good points but you think a team in the top 5 will pick Newton? There really are only a few crappy teams in the NFL this year(Carolina, Cincy), in my opinion. Some of the teams with bad records are actually pretty competitive - Detroit, Cleveland, Dallas, San Fran. Buffalo has some good pieces to build on as well.
You also have to consider need. Carolina took Clausen in the first round. Are they willing to draft Newton and essentially have $80 million tied up in 2 players at the same position? Are they willing to admit that Clausen is a mistake? (Not that I think he is but drafting a Qb first will send that message).
Cincy: Maybe they try to move Carson Palmer and then take newton. However, if they do that I think they go with Luck. (Remember Luck's dad was a NFL Qb and his coach was as well--that gives him a pretty good pool of folks to learn about the NFL from).
Detroit: Defense there (Stafford is the real deal, but he needs to stay healthy) or offensive line (see above).
Cleveland probably feels like it has a winner in Colt McCoy and adds weapons.
Dallas: Romo has taken them to the playoffs before. You do not need a great QB to win the Super Bowl.
Buffalo: Definitely looking for a QB.
San Fran: Ditto (see trying to get Palmer)
Well for starters he is just an athlete that happens to play quarterback. Look at Michael Vick. If Michael Vick did not have the speed of a wide receiver do you think he would be smart enough to survive? Look at Tom Brady,Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. 3 of the top quarterbacks in the league who use their smarts and not their feet to be successful. Its not like you see them outrunning DB'S on the regular. Lol. In 5 years the 3 QB'S I just mentioned will still be in the league anyways and Cam "I claim I did not know my dad took money" Newton will never out produce them in terms of stats and wins.

Reggie Bush ran for 1700 yards, caught passes for nearly 500 yards. Newton's 1500 yards is meaningless. He wants to be a QB not and RB. QB is not in his future. He can't handle it mentally.
Taking things out of context? Never said it would make him a great NFL quarterback. The rushing yards comparison was used to show that he is a totally different level than JaMarcus Russell. Doesn't mean it will pan out for him, just that the two are far from being similar QB prospects.

So it is better that your quarterback cannot run?

Being able to run is not essential. In fact, there is no relationship between running ability and succeeding as a quarterback in the NFL - see Montana, Brady, Manning, Marino, etc.
The most essential skills are: ability to read defenses, release quickly, have great vision to understand what is happening after the play starts and anticipate where your receivers will be, throw accurately (not any harder than necessary), make the right decision (e.g. know when not to try and make the play and take the incomplete) and be able to do all this in the most pressured situations.
If you can do all of the above you should not need to run very often.

I have small toes.
Luck>Newton
I have a close friend affiliated with a franchise in the NFL. The guy really knows football in a way that I can only marginally appreciate.
While not infallible, particularly when it comes to quarterback, the position with the least amount of predictive success in terms of the draft, he thinks Newton is in a different category than Young. Russell, Tebow, and the like, all of whom have various infirmities (Russell being the worst, because he was so out of shape and lacked a work ethic).
He thinks Newton needs to get a bit lucky and land with the right team. His running ability? No one in the NFL can run at QB like Newton does at Auburn and succeed, or more importantly, survive. But he thinks his size and speed is an asset. He will be able to avoid sacks, particularly if he is dedicated to reading defenses and working on quickening his release - the best anti-sack antidotes in the NFL. He can make an average O line better, and that really can help him succeed. The jury is out, however, as to whether he can think like an NFL QB, and use his size and speed to enable a passing game, and not to gain run yardage, which, as I say, is a game that just doesn't work in the NFL.
The guy can throw - both in terms of power (lots) and in terms of accuracy (fair). He is light years better in terms of his passing prowess, than, let's say, Terrelle Pryor, who oozes talent but just can't be a NFL QB. And he doesn't have the slow wind up release of a Tebow - slow directed releases are deadly in the NFL - both in terms of avoiding sacks and permitting defensive players to get a jump on the ball - the game is that fast. Newton starts out in a much better place than other super talents.
The real challenge with Newton is that given his Heisman and his college record, the team that takes him has to use a very high draft pick. That puts pressure on that team to play him too early and expect too much. As my friend says, he has to get lucky in the draft. The lower he goes, the better it might work out for him.
simple: brady, manning, and brees will still be around. the next big qb in the nfl will be sam bradford.
He won't be.. Cam will be the 2nd best QB in Cananda Behind Graham Harrell
newton does have more of a chance than guys like Tebow or V.Young, but the problems is that he doesn't have protypical NFL mechanics and he doesn't work in a pro-style offense at Auburn.
This years draft is really weak, particularly at QB.
Uh no. Saying he is no Tebow is the understatement of the year.
Prediction: He will be arrested for dog-fighting and animal cruelty charges in the first year of his NFL contract. . .
who?
Newton of course.
sir issac newton had the mentality, but not the physicality
cam newton has the physicality, but not the mentality
Evidently he also doesn't have a very ethical family from the sound of the shinanagins his dear ole dad tried to pull off.
He may be a flash in the pan or get himself into some trouble once he has a taste of money and fame.
