If I recall correctly from Aris's training talk podcast, he has less than 20 girls come out for the team.
This means she went from being one of the last girls on the team to 2nd in the nation.
Looks like she ran for Dartmouth too
She may not be running anymore but going from the slowest on the team to second at NXN shows everyone that anything is possible in high school if they want it bad enough

I’m not sure something like this can just happen. I think this was an odd freak occurrence.
Rutledge featured in this 2022 piece about high level hs girls. It’s not good.

Obviously what Christie Rutledge did is very impressive but its really not unheard of...
I disagree. I was reading the story on the homepage and started thinking "this is unheard of. How slow was she last year?" So I then searched and found this thread before starting a new one.
Sure a lot of people may take 3 minutes off but they don't do it and become #2 at NXN.
Anyone know her track times from last year?
In high school almost anything is possible. I had a girl go from about 23-20 from one race to the next.
She was one of our "slower" runners. She was listening to the faster girls talk about how they stepped it up in a race, it was something beyond their every day running pace.
The next race she was running under 21 and steadily improved to the point where she contributed to a team that took 5th in the state championships.

Super annoyed that article is behind a paywall. Would love to read it.
This is an insane comment "anything is possible" ... like if you stop eating and run a ton???She admits to being fully into having an eating disorder and running way too much to the point that she permanently damaged her body. As a coach in HS your job is to back kids off when you notice these things so there isn't permanent damage - it was clear when she was running that season that she had lost a lot of weight and was unhealthy and all you heard in this area was how fast she got and how strong she looked. It's simply sad, that winning was pushed more than health.
