Gabe Jennings anybody?
Gabe Jennings anybody?
What about Eric Reynolds and Jeff Cannada from Greenway High School (Phoenix, AZ)?
Tony Waldrop. http://www.letsrun.com/2005/waldrop.php He did win a Pan Am Games gold in 1975 one year after graduating. Still, he hung up his spikes for good during the indoor season before the 1976 Olympics to work on a PhD in physiology. In 1974 he won the NCAA Indoor Mile title and ran the NCAA indoor record of 3:55 that was essentially equaled by German Fernandez many years later.

I remember those names well, though I don't think either of them did much in college. Reynolds was injury prone. I think Cannada transferred and never accomplished much.
I would also add Scott Fry, Jeremy Johnson, and maybe Shannon Butler, though I think Butler did have a year or two of success after college.
Harry Green?
I know he competed for a few more years, but Don Paige never had anywhere near the success that he did from 79-81 after college.
Josh mcdougal he just works high school meets at Liberty University now.

Off of the top of my head some recent All-Americans who aren't competing, or at least aren't putting up results that I've noticed:
David Kinsella
Bret Schoolmeester
Trent Hoerr
Matt Withrow
Stuart Eagon
Christo Landry
Jess Baumgartner
Matt Gonzalez
Stephen Pifer (gave up in 2010, or just a bad year?)
Colby Wissel
Kiel Uhl
Antony Ford
Gavin Thompson
Paul Morrison
Travis Laird
Tom McArdle
Isaiah Festa
Josh Spiker
Franklyn Sanchez
Sharif Karie
Mark Pilja
Michael Power
I think Pifer should not be on this list
How about the guy that broke 4 in high school. Tim Danielson ran a 3:59.4 in 1966. I think he was from Chula Vista and possible attended San Diego Sate....Oh wait, this is a best college runners who never did anything after. I need to find the best high school runners who never did anything in college post. Sorry.

Seriously, how is it possible to go this deep into the thread and this is the first mention of HR?

Surprised no ones has mentioned Simon Bairu yet?
In the marathon maybe, but he did get the Canadian 10,000m record...
The undeniable winner of this distinction is Paul Ereng.

Olympic gold, world indoor titles, etc. while in college at Virginia. He did nothing after graduating in 1993.
Uh, Rono set a World Record in the 5K two years after college.
A better nominee might be his teammate, Samson Kimwoubwa, who set a 10K WR in college but didn't do much on the track afterwards. He is a prominent coach today, however.

Matt Withrow. The guy won USA xc nats as a 19 year old. Got 7th(?) at NCAAs the next fall off of nothing but pool work. The guy was a freak of nature, the German Fernandez/Lucas Verzbicaz type. Unfortunately all three have had a lot of issues with injuries. Hopefully we will see more from GF and Bicaz (in the tri), but Withrow gave it up a few years ago. This guy was more talented and had more potential than Solinsky. Think about that for a while.
Matt Withrow as an insane talent. Would be sub 27 10k runner now but his leg is jacked. Injured his foot in college and still to this day can't run more than a few miles. Works for adidas now I believe as a sales rep.
Brie Felnagle still runs and is fast. Was on the cover of Runners World not too long ago.
Yong Song Leal would also make this list. Distressed with injuries due to terrible running form.
Michael Granville, HS 800m record holder. Tried running in college (ucla?), never hit his potential.
Jim Ryun.
Graduated 1969. Dropped out of AAU mile that spring, won by Liquori.
Ran a good 2nd place to Liquori '71 in a hyped race, ran 3:52 in '72 in Toronto then fell in the Olympics.
Not much going on after college.
Guess he was pretty awesome during college, yes?

Harry Green walked on at Univ. of Texas and had top time at 10K for three consecutive years. Quite impressive but I don't think he did anything after college.
Well, maybe nothing you heard about, but he did win the Foothill College New Year's Eve 5km in, maybe, 1989.
And then he anchored our Hood to Coast team (Black Flag) to victory in 1990.
And he had a killer crossover dribble.
Rick Robirds, Adams St.
Josh Rohatinksy.......NCAA XC champ....one Ok marathon after graduating.......then nothing.
