Why would it be bad coaching if he doesn't break 2:07? The course record is 2:07:43 and the winner has only gone sub 2:09 9 times in the past 40 years. Ritz is arguably not fit to tie Tergat's shoes and he only ran 2:09:30 to win. NYC is a tough marathon. It is bad coaching to not have him ready for the fast 5k that inevitably comes on First Ave but not because he didn't coach him under 2:07.
