lolz i z real hiiii. You're tight lets blazee
we all know in victoria that a certain former champion of the victoria marathon and her boyfriend/coach/rabbit/chemist have a cloud of doubt around them.
not an elite athlete but certainly a high level local runner.
Yes, there are sub-elite runners that dope intentionally.
Many more would likely be technically doping because they use over-the-counter or presciption meds that are on the banned list. That might be most people...
Eddy is one crazy guy. He is still coaching somewhere in AZ! Can you imagine that?
Anyways, I have known of at least one local-level "good" runner (female, decent--mid 18s maybe?) who had some mild hormone problems and pushed for a hGH prescription in addition to the "normal" treatments (and got it). Ran low 17s a few years later. Really depressing when you see how big of a difference it makes. Makes you wonder if you should even try to be an honest runner.
A difficult topic -- lots of he said, she said, but no one willing to come forward and name names. Really, no one cares about local-type runners who dope because they're still not good enough to get any attention or to be tested by USADA. The most damage is being done by foreign athletes who ARE more than good enough, who are not in the USADA testing pool because they are foreign, and who regularly win second-tier races that give several grand in prize money but do not drug test. They are taking the money that developing (financially stuggling) Americans could be winning. Why win $2000 at a small race when you could get 4th at a big race and take home $10,000? Simple -- races with that kind of money drug test. Check out top finisher results from second-tier road races around the country and you will see a pattern emerge. Is there proof? Of course not. But if it looks like a duck . . .
It shouldn't, but it does continue to amaze me how few posters on letsrun bother to think critically about doping.
I have a sneaky suspicion a runner new to the Boulder scene is taking something illegal. If you read this you know who I am talking about.

What do you mean?
'UK Coach: I'm curious, why would you "never forgive him" for it?'
That is a pretty stupid question. Some doping cheater who I used to look up to ruining the spot I love? Hmmm tricky one
'The only person I can't forgive is myself: for NOT doping during my career.'
I don't believe you ran against Eddy let alone beat him, please feel to email me to prove otherwise, but don't expect a nice reply.
speaking of drugged up locals. Not local, but whatever happened to Ilsa Paulson? I know she had a LD, but apparently her dosage made her run incredibly
Eddie Hellebuyck was basically a good man. He helped countless runners when they went to train in Albuquerque. As an example, he took a friend of mine - Abdelgani Zouad, and turned him into a 29.00/63.00 10km/half marathon runner, although Zouads previous bests were only in the 31" and 70" range a year before.
He also helped Benoit Z. when he came to Albuquerque turn into a 2:06 marathoner.
The doping accusations have been greatly exaggerated. He ran for years at a very high level without doping.
I am not condoning what he did, but we should look at the big picture, and respect the man for all the positive things he did for the countless runners who turned up at his home in Albuquerque.
Ghost in Saudi,
, apply today.
agreed he actually seems like a really good guy

What's an LD?
Anyone could tell she was way too frail to maintain a steady career. She dropped out of college "because God told her to," struggled for a few years, won the TCM (weighing in at a whopping 93 pounds) and--big surprise--dropped of the face of the earth.

LD= learning disability; reminds me of the Lindsey Scherf incident when it came out that she was taking ADD medication(s) when she got busted for refusing to take a drug test a few years ago...the stimulants to treat those conditions are pretty powerful and can cause significant weight loss, leading to faster times initially, but fatigue/burnout in the long run.
Here's one from a couple years ago in Ontario, Canada. Well known local racer was caught once, then skipped out on a second drug-test. She's back competing now. Certainly one of my favorite 'sub-sub elite' dopers!

You gotta be kidding me if you think this guy was clean during his career at any time after he started running fast, he's a cheat and always has/will be.
Those athletes he coached had drastic performances increases due to doping, are you that blind? He was an agent basically and doped them to make money off of them, give Benoit a lie detector test
Really long distance guy that does trail stuff?
Sorry, meant to quote McLess on that post above.
